The ν Gundam is Amuro's personal mobile suit during the Second Neo-Zeon War against arch-rival and Neo-Zeon leader Char Aznable. Although it is partially finished at the time of its deployment, it proves to be a formidable Gundam. Incorporating Psycho Frame (サイコフレーム ?) technologies secretly provided to Anaheim Electronics by Char, the ν Gundam is able to use Psycommu (サイコミュ ?) weapons, fin funnels, and channel the emotions and Newtype energies of a suitable Newtype pilot. Despite its name, the fin funnels equipped on the ν Gundam are actually bits, since they have built-in generators instead of energy-capacitors like most funnels. While this made them more expensive to construct, it allows less modules for equipping than the standard, thus has an enormous benefit by giving the fin funnels a tremendously long operational time. Circling the battlefield on their own, the fin funnels can be utilized in far more creative and strategic ways than standard funnels. The actual beam of the fin funnels is also larger and stronger, due to each containing its own generator.
The fin funnels also have the ability to generate a unique beam shield, known as the "Fin Funnel Barrier", providing a defense against both beam and solid projectiles. Although these unique funnels prove incredibly effective and flexible in purpose, they are also much larger than the standard funnel, making them easier targets to destroy if used too brashly. When combined with legendary ace pilot Amuro's immense skill and experience, this powerful state of the art Gundam is able to almost single handedly keep the Neo-Zeon's elite forces at bay, and its unique Psycommu system and Psycho Frame is put to the test by Amuro for this harrowing battle.
Amuro used the ν Gundam in his final battle against Char, where he defeats his enemy’s MSN-04 Sazabi, after which he uses his Gundam to stop the asteroid base Axis from falling onto Earth. The Psycho Frame incorporated into the mobile suit causes a powerful phenomenon, as a result of the wish of all humanity, driving Axis away from Earth. Unfortunately, both Amuro and Char vanish with the Gundam. In the original novel to Char's Counterattack called Beltorchika's Children, Amuro faces Char's MSN-04-2 Nightingale with the Hi-ν Gundam, the fully developed version of the ν Gundam. Although never seen on screen, this mobile suit is considered one of the most powerful in the Universal Century timeline and quite popular, often seen in video game series' such as the famous Super Robot Wars series. It's also appears in all three title of Another Century's Episode video game series.
The ν Gundam is one of the most prolific and well known Gundam designs in the metaverse's history. In fact, even more than a decade after the film's debut, the ν Gundam is often seen as the representative mecha for all Gundams in general, being Amuro's ultimate mobile suit. The ν Gundam is also one of the only Gundams to use funnel-type equipment (cordlessly remote controlled beam firing) in the Universal Century, with the others being the variants of ν Gundam, namely the Mass Production ν Gundam and the complete version of the ν Gundam, the Hi-ν Gundam (the Psyco Gundam MK-II with reflector bits and the V2 Gundam with its mega beam shield utilizing bits that cannot attack, but only forms protective shielding around a selected area, are generally not considered funnel-type weaponry).
