Trainer Ikari

“Wow these trainer exams are harder than I thought” said Ikari. Ikari is an 8 year old girl. She has short, boys style, blue hair and bright blue eyes. She is the youngest of four. Her oldest brother is Riley, followed by her sister Rika, and finally the hot tempered Kyoshi. Ikari is taking the trainer license exams today. Usually kids don’t take the exams until they’re at least 10, but Ikari is smarter than the average kid. “Well I’m finally finished” said Ikari handing in her exam booklet. Ikari wandered out into the lobby of the Aura Island Academy. She is the youngest in her class and the shortest, obviously. “Pichuuu!!” squealed an overjoyed yellow rodent. “Jolt!” replied Ikari catching her Pichu as she jumped at her. “What are you doing here??? The battle exams were yesterday, we got a perfect score on them!” said Ikari. “She wanted to see how her trainer was doing” replied Riley getting up from one of the lobby couches. Riley is almost 20 years old. Ikari is basically the mini version of Riley, only she’s a girl. Howler nudges Ikari in the back to get her attention. Howler is Riley’s Houndoom, which basically acts as Ikari’s babysitter. “We got something for you on the way here Squirt” said Riley. Ikari took what Howler had in his mouth. It was a box with a ribbon tied to it. Ikari unwrapped it and found a brown colored hat inside with the blazing white logo, REBEL, on it. “Awesome!!” yelled Ikari putting it on. “Perfect fit!” exclaimed Riley patting Ikari on the head. “Come on, the results won’t be in until after lunch. Besides, didn’t you want to watch Dad as he competed in the World Championships? It’s on in about 25 minutes” said Riley. The group headed back home for lunch and to watch the tournament.
“Whenpp’s dad gonaap be on??” whined Ikari with a mouthful of pizza. “Knock it off runt!” said Kyoshi whacking Ikari in the back of the head. Tears start to form in Ikari’s eyes and Rika yells at Kyoshi for hitting Ikari. “She was asking for it” replied Kyoshi calmly taking a bite out of his pizza slice. “Pichuu!!” cried Jolt. “Hey it’s on!” yelled Ikari grabbing her plate of pizza. “What?!” replied Kyoshi. Ikari dives into the big recliner chair that Kyoshi was sitting in and kicks back her feet with Jolt imitating her. “Hey! Runt get out of my chair!” yelled Kyoshi coming out of the kitchen. “Let her stay Kyoshi” said Riley.
Television: “The competitors are Lakota from Aura Island and Brian from the U.S region. The battle is a two on two, choose your first pokemon now!” announced the television. Ikari and Jolt cheered when Lakota Fang was announced. “Hey do you think we could see mom in the stands?” asked Ikari. Before Kyoshi could say something mean Riley told Ikari that she should focus on the battle so she could learn something. “Lakota’s first pokemon is Blaze, a Typhlosion. His opponent has chosen Tyranitar. Blaze starts off with a brilliant flame blitz attack and scores a direct hit on Tyranitar” announces the television. By the end of the match Lakota had lost the battle and was knocked out of the championships.
“Poor dad, he worked on training for this for over 3 years” said Rika turning off the TV. Ikari went to her room and got her stuff to go back to the academy. “Okay I’m ready to go Riley” Ikari said. Riley and Kyoshi were discussing the tournament and how that there would be another one in two years. “Maybe he can enter in that one” said Riley. Ikari had been thinking about that particular tournament since her mom and dad left a couple of months ago for this championship. “Hey maybe I could enter in the next championship” said Ikari confidently. Kyoshi started to laugh uncontrollably. Riley and Rika didn’t laugh but gave Ikari a queer look. “What’s so funny?!? I’m serious!” yelled Ikari looking around at her siblings. “Ikari you couldn’t even with at the Sinnoh league level” said Kyoshi poking Ikari in the back of the head. “YES I CAN!!” yelled Ikari kicking Kyoshi in the shin hard. Kyoshi collapsed to the ground in pain but still laughing at what Ikari said. “Ikari that is enough!” said Riley glaring at Ikari. Ikari picked up Jolt, who was equally pissed, and left the house and ran ahead of Riley down the road towards the academy. “She seems very upset” said Rika as Riley walked out the door. “Well she needs to learn that she has limitations” he replied.
“And with a perfect score for the first time in the history of Aura Academy, Ikari Fang!” said the Dean of the academy handing Ikari her license along with an academic trophy. After the ceremony Ikari was looking at her trainer card when the island professor approached her. “Congrats Ikari” said Professor Gale. “I’ve talked with your brother and he’s letting me borrow you for now. The top scoring student gets to pick a starter from any region at my lab” she explained to Ikari. A little while later Ikari was looking at different starter pokemon from all over the world. “Sweet!! A Totodile!!” Ikari exclaimed running over to it. Totodile looked at Ikari and began to dance around happily. “This is the one!” said Ikari picking up Totodile. “Well he’s yours then” said Professor Gale. “Now I have to give you a name. …..How does Kayu sound?” asked Ikari. Totodile nodded his head happily and danced around with Jolt. “Okay then, your name is officially Kayu!” said Ikari happily.
By the time Ikari and her pokemon got home it was dark out. “So let’s see your new friend Ikari” called Rika from the kitchen. “Meet Kayu” said Ikari letting Totodile out of his pokeball. “You chose a stupid looking blue thing” said Kyoshi not even glancing at his sister. “And you want to be in the championships, what a joke!” said Kyoshi leaving the room. Riley didn’t say anything, he only patted Ikari on the head and gave her a small smile. Rika left as well without saying anything. Jolt and Kayu looked at Ikari with sad looks on their faces. “Come on guys” Ikari said leading them to her room.
Ikari pulled out her travel bag and went over to her door and locked it. “They don’t think we are capable of anything! We’re going to prove them wrong and make dad happy by winning that championship!” said Ikari packing some clothes and books on berries and foraging. Ikari then put together a first aid kit for herself and then one for her pokemon and packed them into her bag. She put medicines, pokeballs, maps, and money into her bag as well. She put new batteries into her pokenav and made sure her pokedex was all in working order. She then deleted her brother’s and sister pokegear numbers from her pokegear. “We can’t let them find us once we leave. We’ll leave tomorrow night” said Ikari. Ikari went on to packing up the rest of what she needed. She prepared clothes for tomorrow night and then hid her bag under her bed for the time being. Kayu and Jolt decided to get as much rest as they could before the big escaped tomorrow night. Ikari went into the kitchen to prepare some meals for at least a couple of days of travel and hid them in different parts of the fridge. Ikari noticed that everyone was in their rooms so she went outside with a root beer and started to bounce her soccer ball off her head. She was very nervous about what she going to do, but there was no other way to prove her skills to everyone.
The next night after everyone went to bed Ikari and Jolt, with Kayu in his pokeball, left the house and made their way to the docks. Ikari flashed her ferry pass and boarded the boat to the Sinnoh region. A little while later she was on the open water on her way to Sinnoh. Ikari had left a note on the kitchen table telling them that she was going to prove that she could easily compete in the championships. Around 7 in the morning Ikari and Jolt arrive in the harbor of Canalave City. “Well we’re here Jolt” said Ikari quietly. Here was this almost 9 year old out to prove her family wrong by traveling to an unknown region. What the hell is this kid on?!?!
Ikari then boarded a train that took her to Orebourgh Town. “Jolt this is where the first Sinnoh gym is” Ikari said looking at her pokenav. By now Riley and the others have discovered the note and are in a total panic. What Ikari didn’t know was that her parents were coming home that morning, it was supposed to be a surprise for her. “THIS IS YOUR FAULT KYOSHI!!! IF YOU WOULD LEARN TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT THEN MAYBE IKARI WOULDN’T HAVE LEFT!!” yelled Rika rereading the goodbye note Ikari left. Riley was sitting back in his chair rubbing his temples while trying to make sense of Ikari’s actions. “It doesn’t make sense” said Riley out loud getting the attention of Rika and Kyoshi. “Ikari knows enough not to pay attention to anything that Kyoshi says” he added. “HEY!” replied Kyoshi. “So why would she act on a whim like this. There’s got to be another reason” said Riley. And if matters couldn’t get any worse they do. Ikari’s parents happen to arrive right in the middle of the chaos. As everyone discusses why Ikari would do this, Riley goes for a walk to clear his head.
Meanwhile Ikari learns that if she wants a gym battle that she’ll have to capture another pokemon so she can do the 3 on 3 battle. “Well it’s just been one problem right after another. Forgot the lunches at home, got a deep cut on my side, and now I don’t a third pokemon for my gym battle” whined Ikari stretching out on the park bench. Suddenly Jolt and Ikari’s stomachs began to growl loudly. “Uh-oh” Ikari said. Ikari headed to the local pokemon center and checked with Nurse Joy and found out that pokemon center’s offer free meals for trainer’s and their pokemon. “Cool” replied Ikari. Ikari, Jolt, and Kayu began to dig into a lunch of ramen noodles. “These are delicious” said Ikari eating another mouthful. “That damn rogue Houndour attacked my stand again!!” complained a guy sitting at a table behind Ikari. Ikari overheard the guy and got up and went over to their table. “Is there really a wild Houndour running around here?” asked Ikari. “Sure is. And the rogue nuisance is costing everyone business” replied the guy. “Can you tell me where I can usually find it?” asked Ikari hopefully. Ikari found out it hangs out at the abandoned end of the town’s coal mine. Ikari recalled Kayu back and headed off to the area with Jolt riding on her head. “How lucky are we!!” exclaimed Ikari rushing to the area.
Ikari didn’t have to wait long to find the Houndour. “Jolt use thundershock!” commanded Ikari dodging the flames that Houndour spit at her. After the direct hit Jolt followed up with an iron tail. “Good job Jolt!” said Ikari throwing the pokeball at Houndour. The ball rolled a couple of times before it showed that Houndour was captured. “YES!! OUR FIRST CAPTURE JOLT!!” yelled Ikari jumping up and down. Jolt began to do her happy dance and Kayu came out to join her. Back at the pokemon center Ikari had just finished getting her newly captured Houndour healed. “I’ve got a name already picked out for you” said Ikari happily. Houndour looked pissed beyond comprehension at being captured. “I’ll name you Chigaru!” Ikari said happily. Chigaru turned his back to his trainer and sat down. “Okay…… I think this is going to be harder than I thought” said Ikari slumping to the floor at her bitter-sweet victory.
