• The Door to Avalon
Alexa Grant stared at the ceiling and listened to the raindrops smack against the glass of her bedroom. It wasn’t long before she finally got up and looked in a mirror to contemplate her reflection.

Alexandra, known as Alexa to her friends, was a tall fifteen year old with long hair in flaming red curls and ocean blue eyes, her creamy skin was almost flawless but for the freckles that were speckled across her cheeks and nose.

She was quite pretty; she was also a mythology freak. She knew most of the myths of the world, and she had a secret.

Alexa turned to look at her closet door and debated whether or not she should open it. See beyond her closet door is another world… a world that, Alexa knew from the myths she read, was Avalon

Now you can laugh if you want but Alexa knew that it was real… so real that she sometimes had to pinch herself to keep herself from believing she was dead and had gone to heaven.

Alexa debated whether or not her mother would be mad if she seemed to have disappeared in the middle of the night, and would probably be gone for an entire school day, then she debated whether or not she was really going to fall asleep that night, then she considered what was going to happen at her school the next day and whether or not it was really important, she only took about fifteen seconds to come to a decision on that, nope it really wasn’t.

Grinning wickedly Alexa went to her dresser and pulled on some more appropriate clothes, she then walked over to her closet and slowly turned the handle and quickly walked in, closing the door behind her.

On the other side of the door was a small park with apple trees all around, and on a bench nearby the door was a girl, who looked about fourteen, with coal black hair in a braid over one shoulder and, though Alexa couldn’t see them since the girls back was turned to her, grey eyes.

    “Leah!” Alexa said

The girl turned around quickly, half eaten apple in one hand, book in the other.

Leah grinned and set her book down, “so the mortal finally decides to grace us with her presence.” A little fairy flew to Alexa and tugged at her shirt telling her in fairy speak ‘well come on move it’

Alexa grinned at the small immortal girl who was the daughter of Merlin and Morgana. Leah only looked fourteen but in fact she was about five hundred years old. “Don’t tell me you missed me?” then deciding to obey the fairies command she took a few steps forward.

Leah sighed dramatically “it gets ever so dull when you’re not around to brighten our immortal days.” Leah’s face then broke into a grin “of course father will be entertained by your visit as will Aunt Gwen, Uncle Arthur. Mother will be happy to meet you by the way!”

Alexa grinned and linked arms with the immortal as they started to walk away from the park and toward a small white castle that soon became visible. “So I finally get to meet your mother?!”

Leah nodded and plucked an Apple from a nearby tree before handing it to Alexa and taking a bite out of her own. After she had swallowed Leah said “mother has been called away to the other side of Avalon so many times that, I think if she is called there one more time, my father will scream.”

Alexa grinned and took a bite out of the Apple that had been handed to her.

Leah had been right; Merlin greeted his daughters’ friend enthusiastically as did King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, or Gwen, as the queen had insisted that Alexa call her.

She also got a wonderful reaction from the sorceress Morgana la Fey, Alexa had always believed that the myths had been too harsh about the half sister of King Arthur, and meeting the sorceress confirmed this opinion.

All too soon Alexa knew she had to go home, time passes slower in Avalon then it did in her world.

As Leah and Alexa walked away from the palace Morgana asked her husband of a thousand years “When do you think Leah is going to offer Alexa immortality?”

Merlin smiled at his wife “When Alexa realizes that there is a reason she can come here when her mother can’t.”

Gwen looked at Merlin “But how long will that be?”

“She may already know” Arthur said “but she isn’t ready to accept it yet.”

All four of them nodded in agreement.

Leah and Alexa were laughing at a joke Alexa’s mother had said about her chemistry teacher when they came to the door.

“I always hate this” Alexa admitted “I don’t want to know how long I’ll be grounded for this time
Leah grinned “Ah but you’ll be back before your done being grounded”

Alexa grinned and sighed when a few fairies tried to pull her away from the door, after explaining to them that she had to go home and getting them all to let go Alexa walked to the door and opened it, waving goodbye to Leah, Alexa walked back into her room.

Half an hour later Alexa’s mother came up the stairs and, stared at Alexa for a few moments.

    “Grounded?” Alexa eventually said

    Her mother nodded “Two months!”
