• My feet drag in the tiny grains of sand that swallow the poles of the swing set that I’ve found comfort in tonight. The soft soil beneath me turns damp as another tear slides down my cheek and into the ground. Rumbles pierce the clouds making their way up to my ears as I look to the now darkened sky. A cold drop of water falls onto my nose, slivering down my neck. I sigh in-between my heavy sobs cause by the pain of this day. It kept replaying in my head, over and over. “Am I that terrible?’ I whispered to myself. “No you’re not.” an unfamiliar voice sang into my ears. I quickly tilted my head as i gazed up and down the mysterious boy in front of me. Jet black hair sat a top his head partially interrupting my glance into his eyes. Rain was laying still on his face, but they were mixed with the tears his electric blue eyes had wept. A dark silver ring lined his lips that showed little emotion. His pale skin colour was bright against the contrast of his dark clothing. A damp olive shirt stained with water spots covered his chest. Charcoal black pants were pressed to his legs and his bare feet sat on top of the unstable rocks that has birthed the playground. “Who are you?” I mouthed barley audibly. He took a few steps closer leaving his body only a couple feet from my own. “Trevor.” he stated slightly tilting his head towards the ground. “Oh,” I said quietly. “I’m Patricia.” I spoke nervously. His lips parted to speak but my voice cut him off. “Why did you say I’m not terrible?” I asked busting with curiosity. He didn’t speak. I moved a piece of soaked chestnut couloured hair that was blinding my vision to a spot behind my left ear, as I patently waited for a response. “Because,” his voice cracked. “you’re the sweetest girl I’ve ever met.” A shiny drop of water streamed down from his left eye, falling onto his already wet t-shirt. My swing creaked as I pulled my body from it’s binding hold. My chilled feet sink deeper into the ground with each step I take towards his presence. I lunged myself forward, extending my arms around his waist as I buried my face into his comforting chest. I gasp for air as a pair of hands hold my head still against his freezing cold body. My emerald green eyes close as I realize that I am safe in his tight grasp. For the first time in my life there was no pain, only understanding. For the first time in my life, I had a friend.
