• He ran.

    Tup tup tup tup.

His bare feet rapped the ground, barely touching it. The shoes were in the small purple cloth bag on his shoulder. The protection for his feet was nice, but the feel of the soft, warm earth was better.

Dark brown hair flopped on his forehead; his pewter eyes were filled with the excitement and danger of this mission. The white peasant shirt he wore fluttered, the two rings worn (one on his right hand ring finger; the other on his right index finger) sparkled in the late afternoon sunlight filtering through the trees of the forest.

The fellow smelled the metal from the weapons; heard the idle chatter of the guards. He was close.

The trees started to thin and he slowed to a stride, then a halt. Should he have fun with this or go inside undetected? The boy smiled. Of course he’d have fun with this.

The swelling in his chest began; he closed his eyes. Opening them again; the increased vision was amazing. Quiet magic began building up around him; the mysterious person felt himself slip into it.
