• Ires of Govannon
    Act One
    Scene One
    Moments One and Two

tab The sun rose over the western coast of the Irillian Kingdom, a grand white castle casting its shadow over the western side of the city. Many of the residents were awake, heading towards their jobs in the industrial sectors in the north. The commute was seen on the roofs of the buildings, which stacked up ten stories from the ground, even with the tall highways held up by pillars.
tab The citizens looked like ants from the tallest tower of the imperial castle, where a dark-skinned man stood overlooking them. He wore white robes, and his hands were behind his back as he pondered great thoughts; however, a noise behind him brought him out of the depths of his mind and his slightly cloudy grey eyes opened. He calmly turned to see a white owl ruffling its feathers, the look on the man’s face was now one of wonder as he stepped closer, leaning in towards the waking bird that blinked its’ grey eyes a few times as if it were waking up from a long sleep.
tab “Nilias, Govannon’s personal owl… you’ve finally awaken. What a different time you are in indeed, small bird.” Said the man quietly in awe as he fished around in his pocket for what seemed to be a cracker, one the bird took eagerly.
tab “That means a rather long list of things, doesn’t it, Nilias?” asked the man, as the owl seemed to give a somber peep as it stretched its wings and yawned.
tab “That means your siblings are awake, correct?” he continued, as the door to the room burst open, the bird nearly wobbling off the perch in alarm.
tab “Sir Tarlin, there are reports from the other four towers that the guardians are awake!” a younger man wearing the same white robes entered in a hurry, breathing heavily from the stair he had just ascended. Tarlin gave a knowing smile and let the owl onto his arm, his right hand writing a message in the air before he spoke once more.
tab “Yes, I’m aware. We will send them off before informing his highness. Yunai knows what’s going to happen, and Yunai knows what they’ll bring back.”
tab “Is it a threat to the Empire, Sir Tarlin?” the younger man looked confused as the older man laughed, the bird blinking its eyes in the same fashion.
tab “It is Govannon’s Ires, Arucar, they have sensed the fabric of our being to be in danger, hence the awakening of the four consciousnesses themselves.”
tab “Who will they bring back?”
tab “The worthy.” mused Tarlin simply, as he tied a scroll to the owl, who hopped over to the window.
tab “Have a nice journey, Nilias.” Tarlin continued, as the owl tilted its head in understanding before lifting off over the waking kingdom.

tab Days passed and there was no word from the guardians, and although the gates bustled with merchants in to see the king, no persons arrived with a guardian or a letter. Tarlin had stopped descending from the tower each morning and instead stood on the lower levels of his keep, watching the northern level entrance from fifty stories up. He felt a surge of hope when the guards seemed to be disturbed, and an even greater emotion when a loud buzzing noise came from his desk. He fished a circular disk out from under a mound of papers and quickly pressed a green button, a small man in identical white robes shooting up from the top.
tab “Sir Tarlin, Zhi has returned-,”
tab The holograph didn’t get a chance to finish, as Tarlin raced down the stairs as quick as his body could move him. The quest had begun, and the hourglass of fate had turned to allow sand to escape. He had no time to waste with holographic messages when there was so much to be done.
