• I couldn't sit still. I decided on pacing the room until he came back, because I knew he was coming back. He was so stupid believing he could handle the situation on his own. But if he died...
I took a quick glance at the clock and saw the hands steadily making their way to eleven. He had been gone for over three hours already and it was getting closer to four by the minute. I pulled out a chair in the kitchen and sat down. The Salasi were very dangerous, not only with their brute force but also with their intellect, they were very similar to humans. Not physically of course, but mentally. Maybe they were closer to dogs.
I fingered my blade that was lying useless on the table. I should have been with him. I gripped the leather hilt tighter and stood back up to continue my pacing.
My gear was all on, and I was expecting action. I didn't volunteer to hide out when New York City was being taken over by mutant beasts. I walked quickly to the window and pulled aside the curtains, nothing. There was nothing but the usual darkness and silence.
The door swung open and I spun around.
"Bren?" I was only a little dissapointed that it was Alex and not a beast. He obviously couldn't believe I was still waiting around.
"I know, I know, I'll go home after I know he's alright." I knew I sounded a bit pushy but I needed to show I was independant.
"It is way past your bedtime." He grinned at his little joke but all I could manage to do is sneer at him. Everyone always made jokes about my age because I was the youngest. But talent was talent, and sixteen was not that young. Alex himself was only twenty. Instead of commenting back I gathered my gun, my blades, and the coat on the lounging chair.
"Where are you going?" Alex asked a little surprised that I didn't use one of my side remarks. I walked to the shelf and gathered more amo, just incase.
I loaded my gun and stuck it in its pouch on my hip. "I'm going out to find him, I won't let him die."
