• tab I stepped through the rubble, my muscles tensing to pounce if it came to a fight. My footfalls echoed through the silence, permeating the stale air around me; thank God I didn’t have to breathe or I’d find myself choking before I even made it through the night. I could smell blood from the next room and knew I had found my enemy. I readied myself and vaulted through the doors.
tab The bloodthirsty b*****d looked up from his fresh kill, a child of about only eight. Blood covered his sickly face and soaked his shirt. He was young, maybe only days old, and his eyes still full of wild fear. I had no room in my still heart to pity him for taking the life of this innocent child. He had killed five already, she would be his last. I bolted across the room and kicked him square in his cold jaw. “That’s for hunting on my grounds.” I told him as he hit the wall, then I lit him up with my flames and watched him burn. “And that was for the girl.”
tab When he was nothing but ashes, I took the girl’s still-warm body out of the warehouse. She deserved a peaceful slumber. I would not allow her remains to burn this night. I laid her body in the alley outside and continued on my way as the building burst into consuming flames. The inferno would not spread from the building to others; I could guarantee the city that much.
tab When I entered my apartment I pulled a jar out of my fridge and downed the cool, thick red liquid. Then I opened my curtains and crashed on the couch as the sun ascended on the horizon. Falling into a somewhat comatose state without truly sleeping, I waited until my body repaired itself from the previous night’s injuries and watched dawn arise. Another untamed night had passed, another night in the centuries of my existence, and still I lived.
