• Prologue

Have you ever started at the sky with question and wonder? To lie on your back and look at the endless sky or sit in class and look out the window. To imagine freedom? Well, on one sunny day Melany looked out the window and stopped a seconded to dream. It didn’t make a difference since she always looked to the sky to day dream, in class, out in the open or just about anywhere. On this sunny day it just felt different. The sky was a beautiful blue, the coloured leaves danced ever so often passing and the day felt longer then usual.
While Melany looked to the sky she remembered something that she had never seemed to think of, never stopped to ponder, but on that day, for who knows why she did.

“I remember that I asked my mom about flying. I remember asking questions like . . . Why can we not fly? Is it possible to fly? Will I ever fly? My mom looked at me with a smile and said this to me. We can’t fly because we don’t have wings like birds, our bones aren’t halo and God didn’t design us to fly.” Physically we can’t fly, but we can fly in a plane. If you want to fly then we can one day go in a plane . . . then you can fly.”

Melany remembered her mom walking a way to the car and then . . .She remembered her herself frowning a little. It just wasn’t the answer she was hoping to receive. But she frown turned into a sob in seconds with tears and a cry for help.

Melany sighed, “Even though its not really flying, I still would have liked to go with you mom, someday I would’ve but I guess it will never happen.”

As she thought of what her mother said before her life was blown out like a candle that once upon a time gloomy day she understood why she had frowned those few seconds.

“Everyone has dreamed to fly and that’s why there are planes. But people have now lost the sight of that. Planes aren’t used for thrill of feeling somewhat like you’re flying. Planes are just used to get from one place to another and like a tree that has been cut and never planted the dream that feeling of happiness has disappeared.”

Melany wanted to fly with wings her back. To feel as light as a feather. To fly with no worries or care in the world. Were there is nothing to hold her back. To fly forever because the sky stretched forever above and stretched boundlessly in front and behind her. As I closed her eyes, she pictured herself flying. The radiant sky, silver white wings anything to make her feel like she was really flying.

“Mel? There you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere?” a yell came from across the room.

Melany opened her eyes suddenly and there in the doorway her best friend stood with her school bag.

“Are we going or not Mel?” She said with a rush. “The soccer team is about to play.”

“Oh right! Sorry Chris” Her hand on the back of her head with a bit of embarrassment.

Melany’s had always lost track of time when her head was lost in the clouds. It happened every day that she was used to it. Melany arose from her seat. She grabbed her bag and quickly stuffed it with all her books. Then she ran to her friend Christen.

    “Are you ready now?”

“Ah lets go. Sorry about that I was just day dreaming again.

“Ah I figured that much out already! So what was it this time?”

Melany looked at Christen with a smile. “That will never tell!” then dashed out of the class.

Christen ran after her with question. “Come on tell me!”

“Nope! This time it’s a secret!”

The two friends walked to the soccer fields, one with excitement of a good game and the the other, well you already know. . . the dream to fly. Not knowing that life may just change around the corner.
