• Once upon a time there lived a pale, dark haired girl of seventeen years who worked at a bakery in a small town enclosed by a dense forest. She lived with her mother and her pet wolf in the apartment just above the bakery. Together, they would bake treats and goodies to sell to the townspeople. They were well respected and liked in the tiny town. Everybody would great the girl and give treats to the wolf as she made her rounds delivering the treats to the people.

One very handsome and kind person would come into the store, day after day, only buying a couple little treats for his grandmother and his little sister. He was the ideal for all the young girls, the most eligible bachelor of th town. Any girl who caught his attention would be considered the luckiest girl in the whole town. One day he bought no treats from the bakery. Instead he asked the young bakery girl to the dance being held the night before Halloween, and she gladly accepted. They soon fell deeply in love and became inseparable.

After a year of courtship, the two announced their engagement. They were to be married on October 31st, two years after they first fell in love. The girl moved out of her mother's apartment, and moved in with the the young suitor and his family. She would walk through the forest near her new home to go to work everyday at the bakery, always making sure to bring her pet wolf with her and always bringing home a little treat for grandmother and little sister.

On one particularly cold fall day just a few days away from the wedding, the girl closed the bakery down as usual. As she left, she picked up her blood red hooded cape that she always wore when it became cold outside. She packed in a basket some treats for grandmother and little sister, the new axe she had just bought as a present for her betrothed, and headed out into the oncoming storm. As she walked, her wolf started growling in the direction of the woods.

“Oh, what is it? What is bothering you so much, dear wolf?” Asked the girl as the wolf slowly headed into the woods. She followed curiously, wondering what made her loyal pet so disturbed. As the wood began to thicken, two shadows began to move. The girl silenced her wolf and hid in a nearby bush so she would not be seen.

As the shapes began to become clearer, she heard a giggle escape one of the profiles. She realized then that it was her fiancé with another woman! Consumed with pain and anger, the girl took out the axe she had bought earlier that day and slowly approached the drunken couple. Too intoxicated to hear the footsteps behind him, the young man laughed as the enraged girl swung the axe, decapitating him. The harlot screamed and began to stumble off into the unknown part of the forest. The wolf took off, catching her and knocking her to the ground. The wolf devoured the girl and howled with the thrill of the hunt. He cantered back to the side of his mistress. She bent down to scratch his ear, picking up the head of the man she once loved and placing in her basket.

Together the girl and the wolf walked through the forest to their home. The girl sang as she walked, the old song about legends and myths. The creepy tune of the song was heard all the way in town, where the people were clueless to what had just occurred. The girl entered her house, calling to the grandmother and sister of her beloved.

“Oh dearies! I have brought home some treats for you to eat. They are in the basket that I am leaving on the table.” She walked into the next room, watching as the grandmother and sister come down the stairs and into the kitchen. They opened the basket and screamed as the head of the young man rolled out onto the floor. They turned to leave but as soon as they went through the door, the wolf ran them down, dragging their lifeless bodies one by one to his mistress. She laughed as she pulled out a cookie from the basket, soaked with blood and gave it to her loyal pet. He wagged his tail, accepting the reward.

Soon, pounding was heard on the door. “Open up!” Screamed the neighbor, a big muscular man who supplied the wood for their fire. “I heard screaming! The body of your betrothed was found in the forest! You must let me in or else I will break down this door.”

The man burst in along with many other men from town. All of them carried weapons, except for the two who where holding the bodies of the young man and his blonde consort. They saw the girl and her pet surrounded by the bodies of the grandmother and the little girl. They shot the wolf and grabbed he girl as she screamed for the loss of her loyal pet. She was taken to the center of town, where she was immediately hanged for her heinous crimes.

It is said today that if you go walking in the woods, you will see a girl in a dark red hood and her pet wolf. You smell the delicious smell of fresh baked goods along with a slight smell of blood. And as you feel the cold wind breeze past you and the forest become darker, you will hear the creepy song about legends and myths:

    “Listen up, listen well,
to the stories that I tell.
Listen hard, with all your might,
to the tales I tell tonight.
    Pay attention, use your ears,
and forget all of your fears.
For if you're kind, and do right,
    you'll live on past tonight.

    Listen up, listen well,
to the legends that I tell.
But listen not, to what I say,
you'll never see the light of day.
So listen now, your fate is sealed,
for all the myths are now real.”
