• One day I told my friend my only secret; that day, she betrayed me.

Crystal betrayed me! We had been friends for years, I trusted her and now she was humiliating me in front of the whole school! My secret was being passed from ear to ear. It would only be a matter of time before he heard it, before Nathan heard it. Today just couldn’t get any worse.

In my opinion, Nathan is the sweetest boy I have ever met. All those other guys are just disgusting pigs! Nathan however, is better than all of them, besides his looks of course. It might have been his eyes, which were a light glacier blue, which drew me in.
It all happened three years ago in middle school, seventh grade. Nathan helped me in a time of need. Some girls ganged up on me, yelled names at me, laughed, and threatened to punch me when Nathan appeared out of nowhere. He told the girls off. They just scoffed, glared and turned to walk away. He helped me up. My emotions got the better of me and my eyes glazed over with salty tears. He merely smiled, led me to my locker, said goodbye and left me dreamy-eyed.

I could never get close to him. For the next three years, girls swarmed around him and his buddies were always taking him somewhere else. Sadly, I had no classes with him. I never got to thank him properly for his actions that day.

Now, three years later, I have almost all my classes with him, but it still seems impossible to even get near him. Things haven’t changed a bit over the last three years.
Now Crystal has to tell him that I like him, which doesn’t seem all that surprising since most girls do like him. Still, I wanted it to remain a secret; I don’t want him to know! There’s no way he would feel the same way because there are so many other girls much prettier than me.

During lunch I felt stares drilling into my back. I winced and peered over my shoulder. Some kids were glaring, others were laughing and pointing at me. My cheeks burned in embarrassment. She did tell everyone! There was Crystal, telling the unknowing Nathan my feelings for him. His expression didn’t change; he was smiling, beaming even as he replied back. “Y-you’re crazy! You know that, crazy, Nathan Davenport!” Crystal’s voice erupted all of a sudden. Only then did his expression change; his smile changed to a frown and he became angry.

He stood with quick motion, threw his arms up in the air and started shouting back but I couldn’t hear anything. She growled and stormed away gritting her teeth.
All stared as Nathan picked up his tray and placed it next to mine. “You look lonely sitting here by yourself,” he said. My words came out too slurred to be understood but he just continued. “Gossip is the worst, breaks some people but mostly hurts them. I guess I feel sorry for you, I wouldn’t mind hanging out with you”. His smile grew even larger. I felt like my body was as red as a cherry, burning like an unstoppable wildfire in a dying forest.
His head tilted to the side slightly, his light blue eyes locked on mine, his smile never wavering. “Want to hang out after school today?” he proposed. My head barely managed a nod. “Great! There’s this really great park that I go to, it has a pond and an extremely large field to play in, and it’s a lot of fun!” I merely nodded again.

“I’m glad…” he stopped and didn’t continue his sentence. “Please continue,” I pleaded. He cleared his throat, “I’m glad that I met you three years ago.” There went the wildfire again, burning my body from the inside out. Maybe now I could finally ask him, just maybe I could at least try.

Today just couldn’t get any better!
