• Chapter Four

tab I was dazed from the collision with the gate and had to lean on Cobi for support. The cries of the demons could still be heard as they took more innocent lives. Some were too close for comfort. I let go of Cobi once I regained my balance and looked up at the sky. I let out a soft gasp and Ryuu and Cobi looked up to see what was wrong. They stared up in shock.
tab The sky darkened as a huge mass of dark clouds blocked out the sun. A large shadow fell over the city, and the demons' cries faded away. All of Slynia was silent. The only thing I could hear was the beating of my own heart, which was also growing softer. I looked over at Cobi and Ryuu, who were still staring at the now pitch black sky. They were completely still, as if they were lifeless statues. I felt the air grow cold, and I understood what was happening.
tab An ear-splitting sound filled the air as people screamed in pain from the transformations. My soul was withering away inside me. Screaming, I collapsed onto the cold, hard ground. I tried not to slip into the the darkness, to hold on to what was left of my dying soul. But the attempt was futile. The last thing I saw was a brilliant flash of blue light before being consumed by the darkness.

    tab
tab "How is that possible?!" The Dark One growled at the sky as he tried to make sense of what he had witnessed. He was standing on the ledge of one of the towers, overlooking the city of Slynia. He growled again and threw one of the statues next in some random direction. How could that insignificant mortal have evaded the darkness? No, he thought as he jumped down from his perch. She wasn't insignificant. After all, she was chosen by the gods themselves.
tab Landing on the hard soil, The Dark One cursed his luck and trudged back to the throne room, deep in thought. Clearly, this girl would not be easy to get rid of.

    tab Alone in the darkness...

    tab "Is she okay?"

    tab I am falling...

tab "Does she look okay to you?"

    tab Falling...

tab "Well, what should we do?"

    tab Dying...

tab "Put her in the tent with the others and we'll see what happens."
