    Prologue

    France 1848

" But mother i want to stay with you. Please father you both need me to take care of you." Diana said between sobs. "Darling we wish there was another way, but you will be safe in the mountains. The hotel is known by the locales as The Hisheart Castle." Diana mother said softly.

Diana could hear fighting in the streets. People where yelling and shooting at anything that moved. The Revelation was kind to no one. Off in the distance people where screaming. Diana felt her mothers hand on her shoulder. Her hands, arms, face, body and, legs where burnt from there house fire.

"Yes the fire." Diana thought to herself. That was the last time the sun had shine before the rain had came.

    Chapter one... Winterhelm

Diana pulled the blanket tighter around her arms as she looked out of the window of the carriage. There was nothing but snow and bare trees. They where black against the white of the show. It remind her of the winters at her home. Though this winter would be now known as the winter Diana almost lost everything. A week age her home was burnt down do to a fire set in her town. Her parents where heart and had to stay in the town infirmary.

Thinking about her parents made her day. She wished more then anything that she was with them now. They where thinking about her safety when they decided to make her leave and head north to the Winterhelm Hotel. It was the most persteged hotel in France. it was tucked away high in the monuments where it was trapped in a consistent state of winter. During the summer session the snow would melt but there would still be a thick layer of snow almost everywhere. Diana's father said it was because of how high up the mountain was but her mother had her own reason why. Her mother use to tell her stories about Winterhelm.

She said that the people who live in the town call the hotel Hisheart Castle. Diana remembered how her mom would hold her by the fire on cold winter nights and by the light of fire tell her about the Prince of the Castle. "The locales say that he was in love with an Elf. Spencer Hisheart was the son of King Samson he ruled over the regent. He was looking out his window one night and saw a women enveloped in a soft light. He ran to the castle's grounds to find her. But she was gone, so he went into the forest to find her. He searched for hours for her. His body was as cold as the show and he was having trouble brething..."

Her thought where brought back to the present when the carriage went over a large whole in the ground. Her head hit the top of the carriage with a thud. Though the sides and seats where padded the top was not. "Ouch!" She ground to herself. Her hat fell off and fell out the window. She leaned out the window to see it only be taken away by the wind. As she watched her hat she saw someone standing off in the woods. But in a blink of an eye he was gone. A gust of wind made Diana's red hair fly in her face so she retreated back in the carriage.

Meow. Just then Diana's cat Skip hopped out of its bag. He stretched and then jumped on her lap. "My Lady, look out to your right you can see Winterhelm and its breathtaking lake. Its called Mirrorice. Sliding to the right she say the large man made lake and just beyond that was Winterhelm. It was more beautiful then she could have ever imagined. It was yellow with a blue roof and red trim. "I wish mother and father could see this." Diana thought.

The last hour went by quickly with all that there was to see. When the carriage came to a stop Skip went back into his bag and Diana picked up her small bag. The door opened and a man with green eyes and black hair opened the door. He was dressed in black pants, white shirt and a silver vest with a gold WHH on the vest.

"Welcome to Winterhelm my lady, I am Deitrick." He held out his hand to help her out. His hand was warm and they made her think of her father. As she looked around she was glad to see that there were many evergreen trees. It this world of white and black it was nice to see some color. Diana looked out over the lake, and over on the fair end just for asecond she thought she say the man from earlyer.

"Did you hear me mama?" Deitrick asked with a smile. Spining around her face was flushed. "No sorry i thought i say something and my mind tramed off." "I said its cold and that I'll show you to your room." He bowed a little when he was done talking. They walked in as two more people came out to get her bags. The air was so warm and it smelled like apples. There was a founten in the middle of the large loby. On ether side of the check in desk where marble stairs with gold carpet lineing each step. To her left was a siting room and to the right was a dining room.

"So what brings you to Winterhelm?" Deitreck asked. "My house burnt down and my parents where heart. They sent me here so i would be safe while they got better." The look on Deitrick's fack changed from a smile to a sad one. "I'm sorry to hear that. Please if you ever need to talk feel free to talk to me." His smile was back.

"You must be Diana Ferm. We have been weighting for you to arrive." Said the girl behind the desk. She quickly wrought something in the book in front of her then pulled out a key from under the desk. Diana took the key. "You will be on the forth floor room 75B." They walked to the stairs and say someone walking down with a large stack of sheets in her hands. Just then Skip jumped out if the bag and started walking under the girl with the sheets. "Oh no good kitty you can't stand there!" She started to fall when Diana ran over to her and grabbed her arms stoping her from falling just in time. "oh my, thank you so much. If you hadn't been there I would have fallen." The girl hugged Diana then realized she was a guest. "I'm so sorry you didn't have to do that. A guest shouldn't worry about the staff." She said with a deep bow. "You don't need to be sorry it was my cat that almost made you fall so I was all to happy to help."

"April pick up the sheets and get out." Deitrick said with an angry tone to his voice. "Now wight a second, she did nothing wrong. You don't need to be so mean to her!" Diana shouted as she stepped in front of April.

"What's going on here?" Behind Deitrick there was a tall man in a tux. "Mr. Fix I was just telling April to..." That's when Diana cut him off. "He was being rude to April and I was telling him that he shouldn't be mean."

Mr. Fix looked at all three of them and then fixed his eyes on Diana. "You must be Diana. Your father sent word that you would be coming today. I'm sorry you got cot up in this mess. Is there anything we can do to make up for this." He continued to speak after a quick breath. "Your father said to make you as comfortable as we can make you."

Looking at the key when she was holding so tightly it made an indent in her hand and thought about that for a minuet. "I want April to have a room connected to mine while I'm here." Diana was going to talk more but Mr. Fix quickly agreed and ran off to get her a new room key.

Diana turned to April. "I hope that is ok with you?" She asked. April smiled and grabbed both of Diana's hands. "Iv never sleep in the Castle... I mean Hotel before I'd be happy to." "Here's your new... Room key." Mr. Fix was out of breath when he ran back to them. As the two girls walked away they could hear Mr. Fix telling Deitrick to take care of the sheets. April was thin and about the same tall as Diana. Meow. Skip was trying to get out of the bag again.

They had just rounded the corner to the seconded floor stairs when Diana asked the question that had been eating away at her. "Earlier you called this place the Castle, did I hear that right?"

"Yes you did, but it's just a local story." April looked as though she thought it wasn't just a story. "Please tell it to me. My mom would tell me stories about this place, and it would be nice to hear some from someone who lives here." They both smiled at each other. Just then a grandfather clock started to chime. It was eight-o-clock.

They finally reached there room. When they walked in Diana's mouth dropped. The room was huge there was a sitting room with chairs two small tables, a working desk, fire place and a bookshelf in the room. On the wall to there right was two doors. One was there room and the other a bathroom.

The bed room had two beds. "Which bed would you like mama?" April asked. "Please call me Diana or Ana if you'd like. And if it's ok with you I'd like the one next to the window." "That's fine with me Diana." April said as she jumped on the bed.

Diana walked over to her bed and placed Skip on the bed. The cat walked over to the window and jumped on the badded small sitting area. Looking back at April Diana saw that she was asleep. Just then there was a knock at the door.

Diana went to see who was at the door. "Who is it?" She called out through the door. "It's Deitrick, I have your bags mama." With a sigh she opened the door. He was standing in the door way he had one arm by his side and the other was folded over his chest. Her four large bags. When he looked up his shoulder lingth black hair was is his eyes.

As Deitrick stood there waiting for Diana to say something he thought about earlyer. What was she looking at and what was that smell?

"Just put them in the corner." With out a word he went over to the corner with all four bags." There's no way he should have been able to carry all the bags at once." Diana just stood there in silence.

"Diana, if I may, you need to know something about this place. Not everything is as it seems and if you don't watch your back..." He spun around and starred right into her eyes. "You could get killed."

The hair on her body stood on end and her heart was racing. Then he quickly walked over to the door and as he closed it he said "I hope sleep well Diana."

Diana couldn't move, her legs where shaking and it hurt to breath. The bed room door opened and April walked out. When she saw Diana she ran over to here. "Oh me what happened to you!?" April walked her into the bed room and sat her by the window and opened it. "You need some fresh air. While you sit here I'll unpack your cloths and run a bath for you." She walked out of the room leaving Diana alone.

"What was that? How could he make be feel like that. What did he mean by I could die?" Diana closed her eyes and when she did something landed on her lap. Looking down she say the blue and purple hat that she had lost earlier. She flipped it over to see a yellow and red flower. She picked it up and took a deep breath. It smelled like honey and rain. She looked out the window to see a man in black cloths standing on the ground. He had short silver hair and had light gray blue skin. She's waved at him and smiled. He razed his hand and smiled back. Then a large gust of wind and snow came and when the snow had cleared he was gone.

Diana held the flower close to her chest. She closed her eyes and tried to remember ever line of his face.

"Well looks like I have to stay now, I must know who he is."
