• The One I must Protect
    Chapter 4

For over a week, Eda and I have been stuck in the back of a crowed old couch wagon. Reason being... Well there were several. A few hours after we hit the road, it started to rain down on us heavily, thus making everyone stop and take shelter in the trees. After we hit the road again, a few hours later, a wheel on one of the other wagons broke and had to be replaced. We got stuck in a deep mud puddle. One of the hourses got spooked my a snake. The thing was, that was all only in one day. Later on, on the trip, we tried to keep our distance from the soldiers. But the worse part, Eda's health got worse and the doctor trainee that was with us didn't have the right medicine to help her, only some stuff to help ease the ache of the fever. The trip felt like mouths with all the misfortune we were having and just sitting there watching her suffer.

Finally we made it to the city. I picked out of the opening to see the the massive wall of stone that block the view of the city.

"Looks like we have a problem up ahead."

I looked to Bron with confusion and then I looked to see the problem. Soldiers. I suddenly stiffened up nerviously. The reason why the to of us had to hide in the wagon was because so we could hide from the soldiers. Bron said that since one of the soldiers saw Eda use magic and I was with her, that they would mostlikely be looking out from us and if we were found... Well it wouldn't be good the both of use, especially Eda.

"Quickly take Eda and hide in one of the empty cases back there. I'll take care of everything else..."

I hurried to the back and opened up a box. I up Eda inside first and the i got in, closing it after I did. Shortly, I felt everything come to a stop. I could hear everything Bron and a soldier were saying.

"State your business here..." Said one soldier.

"Oh, just traveling merchants hoping to make some money selling the goods we have..." Bron said.

"I hope you don't mind if we have a look through."

Before he could say anything, I felt the wagon shake when A soldier get in. I tried to keep as quiet as possible, but as nervious as I was, trying to muffle ones deep breathes was a little hard. The box we were in had a small peek hole that I was looking through, just sitting there watching him get closer. Then my whole body froze in fear when I felt the box get kicked. I could feel my head get heavy from the fast passing breathes I was taking when I heard the box loudly creek open. Even though I couldn't see Bron, I could tell he was feeling the same way. Then I met eyes with the soldier, feeling my heart sink deeply, like as if it sank into my stomach.

    "Hey. You-"

Then he stood there like as if he was a statue. I know that look. I looked to Eda, seeing that look in her eyes. As long as I could remember, Eda had always been able to to control the mind of other's. Growing up, I found It to be very helpful, but I never been so thankful in my life, right now, that she had that power. I sat there as I watched her lips moved, not hearing the words she spoke. Then, just like that, the soldier closed the box and got jumped out of the wagon and then the wagon started to move. I got out of the and helped Eda out, but she suddenly didn't have the strength to move, colasping in my arms.

"Laim... We are safe now. They won't hurt us. We won't get torn apart... Like you promise."

She whispered weakly, barely couldn't even hear her. Then I watched her eyes close slowly. Her breath was starting to go short and heavy, along with a weak coughs. The trainee hurried into the wagon and took her from me. She laid her down and sarted to check her. Just looking at her, I new something was wrong. Everything always goes wrong when she pushes herself and its always when she help someone else. I always get angry when I start to think about the reason why things like this always happens to her, because she only uses her abilities to help other. Everytime, the same words echo in my mind. "What has she done to diserve this treatment..."
