• Chapter Five
When it Rains, it Pours. No Kidding.

That lunch was actually...fun. It had been a long time since Genevieve had actually had someone to converse with at lunch time. This Aaron kid actually wasn't half bad. The bell for the end of third period rang loudly and they both got up.

"Where you heading to next?" she asked him.
He took out his schedule and handed it to her. A small smile spread across her pink lips when she read that they had fourth period science together.

"Does my schedule please you Eve?" he asked jokingly.

"Eve?" she asked questioningly. "Who's Eve?"

"You are, little rabbit," he said. "What? Have you never had a nickname before?"

"N-no..." she admitted with a sad tinge to her tone. "And why do you keep calling me little rabbit?" Genevieve inquired, annoyed

"Because of the way you jump out of your seat when the bell rings," he said half-laughing.

Genevieve, or Eve as she was now christened, started to blush furiously. He laughed at her embarrassment.

Okay he is enjoying this far too much, she thought to herself. They walked together through the halls to the science wing of the school. They walked into the room of black table tops and cold stools that made your bum fall asleep. There were various forms of vegetation and organisms in jars and of course, the class pet, a snake we lovingly named Pixie. Eve walked in front of him and sat at her usual table in the back. Surprisingly, yet not so surprisingly anymore, Aaron followed her and sat down next to her. He gave her a friendly smile, and she smiled back. Her smile dissipated when Eve overheard the snickers and comments coming from all around them in the class. Aaron seemed unaffected by it. Could he not hear them? Maybe he didn't care because it wasn't him they were attacking.

One if the most snotty girls in their class, a little blue-eyed, blonde, my-daddy-is-rich-and-I'm-spoiled, skinny, brat came up to them before the beginning of the period bell rang.

"You better be careful around this one," she said to him, her blue eyes like icy daggers on Eve, "She is the biggest slut on campus." The rest of the class hooted and hollered at the joke. Losers. They didn't realize that what they said didn't affect her that much anymore. But she couldn't help but start blushing because she said it right in front of Aaron.

"But Brittany," she said with fake sympathy, "I wouldn't dream of stealing your thunder like that. I know what, and who you, did last summer and I do believe that the entire football team remembers too."

Heat rose to her face the entire class erupted into "Ohs" and "Burns." If she were an anime character, Eve could imagine that this was the part where steam would come out of her ears. She smacked Eve across the face. Pain erupted just below Eve's right eye and tears started to form. Unlucky for Brittany, however, that she did it just as the Earth Science teacher walked in.

"What's going on?!?!" his voice boomed throughout the room.

"Genevieve started it, sir!" she lied through her teeth and pointed one brightly painted finger at the red-headed girl. Eve's jaw dropped and she was about to fight back when an unexpected voice came from beside her.

"Sir, she didn't," Aaron said calmly, his smooth voice like honey floated through the room.

He's...defending me? she asked herself incredulously.

Brittany cut her icy eyes at Aaron this time.

"Ms. Johnson is that the truth?" the teacher asked Eve with one raised eyebrow.

"Yes sir, I didn't start anything," I echoed. She was still just shocked that Aaron had stood up for her.

"Then Ms. Meyer, you have won yourself a one-way paid vacation to the principal's office. Come on down and collect your prize." Eve couldn't help but giggle at the small joke, mainly because it wasn't her "prize" this time.

Brittany scoffed turned on her heals, snatched her bag off of her desk and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Eve looked over at Aaron and he winked one of his amazing brown eyes at her. The butterflies in Eve's tummy made sure she knew they were there as they fluttered wildly. She covered her face with both of her hands so hopefully no one would see.

"Ms. Johnson are you quite alright?" the teacher asked her. She didn't want to move her hands so she only nodded. "Do you need to go to the infirmary?" he offered.

At the opportunity to escape threw itself at her, she grabbed her bag and ran out of class. She kept running down the hall until she was halfway to the infirmary. She leaned up against the cool, ugly teal colored wall and caught her breath. She buried her face in her hands and groaned.

"Oh, my God! I'm falling in love with the new kid!" she admitted aloud. Now that it was said out loud, she realized just how painfully true that fact was.

"Oh, are you now?" said a familiar honey voice. She looked up and there Aaron was, smiling his -something- smile, his brown eyes twinkling even though they were slightly covered by his mahogany hair.

The words, "Oh s**t," came to mind and out of her mouth.
