The single shot rung in her ears. Aridessa Horowitz was in her room when the shot was heard. She had been sitting while reading the morning paper. Aridessa jumped to her feet as soon as the sound deafened. She ran through her door and ran out of her small apartment.
Aridessa was a detective she had been for the last 5 years. She was only in her early thirties. She had black hair and light gray/blue eyes. Aridessa’s hair hung below her shoulders.
There was a crowd forming around a small house on the corner of the street. She ran though the crowd. When she finally made it to the front she quickly pulled out her phone and dialed 9-1-1. She told them that there had been a gun shot and the houses address. She blocked the door to the home until the police arrived.
Soon enough the paramedics rolled out a dead body from the house. Aridessa was inside looking at the crime scene. The dead body’s name had been Williamson, James. He had been shot in the head.
Aridessa bent over the blood stain that covered a good part of the gray carpet on the main room’s floor. She examined it.
“The Doc’s say that he had been shot close range with a small hand-held pistol,” Her partner, Darren told her looking down at some papers.
“Well, he didn’t do a good job of trying to keep his hands clean,” Aridessa said and then pulled up the blood covered pistol she had just found under the bed.
Aridessa slipped the gun into a medium size bag and then Darren took it off to go try and find and finger prints on it. Aridessa continued to look around the room. She found a blood stain that looked like a stiletto heals. She looked at it closely and found out that’s exactly what it was. A women had walked through this mans blood.
After a while longer they soon found out that there was a witness that had seen the whole thing. James young daughter (7, Emily Williamson) had saw the whole thing from the hall. She had run from the murder.
“Little one, did you see the killer’s face?” Aridessa asked Emily. Emily was sitting on a bench outside the apartment building. Aridessa was sitting beside her with a kind look on her face.
“No ma’am, but I could tell that she had dark black hair, was wearing pointy shoes, and had on a really pretty red dress,” Emily said in her young girl voice. She looked at the ground. “Is daddy dead?” Emily asked Aridessa.
Aridessa sighed she hated this part of the job, but she slowly shook her head yes.
“Yes, your daddy died and went to a better place, you will probably see him again one day. You know what though?” She told the girl hoping she wouldn’t start to cry.
Emily looked up at her with tears in her eyes. “What?” She said in a saddened voice.
“With what you just told me you’ll help us catch whoever did this to your daddy.” Aridessa told her.
The girl’s eyes lit up. “Really?” She said with the sound of excitement.
“Yeah, really. Now do you know where your mommy is?” She asked Emily kindly.
“At home, I was visiting daddy for the first time in a while…because mommy and daddy aren’t together any more,” Emily said answering her question. She looked back down. Aridessa could see a tear fall from her eye and roll down her cheek, shining in the moonlight.
“Well, I’ll have my partner call her so you can go home, but before that would you like to go get some ice cream.
The girls face brightened again and she nodded happily. Aridessa took her to her car and drove her off to get ice cream.

    ~The Next Day~

Aridessa had already had a few suspects by the end of the previous day. One was the women who had been dating James. Another was James wife who she found out was named Clary Edmonson. She had changed her name after the divorce. At the moment Aridessa was headed off to go interview Clary. She walked up to the door and knocked. Emily answered the door and smiled.
Aridessa bent down and asked her, “Is your mommy home sweetie?”
Emily nodded and turned around. “Momma! The detective lady is here to talk to you!”
Clary walked up behind Emily. “Oh hello, I’m Clary Edmonson sorry I didn’t get a chance to talk to you yesterday, I was so busy,” Clary told her. Clary had straight black hair and pretty blue eyes, Aridessa noted.
“Oh, it’s alright, but if it’s okay I would like to ask you some question?” Aridessa asked Clary.
“That’ll be fine would you like something to drink?” Clary said and leads her to the house living room.
The room was decorated finely and looked like it had just been cleaned. Aridessa nodded to Clary. “Yes a glass of water would be fine.” She told Clary.
Emily came up and sat beside her.
Clary coming back in the room told Emily. “Go up to your room for while why the adults talk, okay honey.”
“Yes, momma.” Emily said and headed up the stairs to her room.
“Okay to begin with where were you earlier yesterday morning?” Aridessa asked her.
“At the market, picking up some foods,” Clary answered.
“Okay, do you own a hand-held pistol?” Aridessa said scribbling a few notes down onto a note pad.
“No I don’t own any guns.” She answered.
Aridessa knew she was lying because they had already checked to see if she had owned one and she did. “Why are you lying?” She asked her looking up.
“I’m not it was James. He had me buy it for him on day it was at his apartment,” She stated surely.
“Well, we didn’t find one any where around the house. My I ask what size shoe do you where?” Aridessa asked her. They had found out that the Stiletto had been a size 7 in women’s shoes.
“Seven, why?” Clary asked her eye brows rising.
“Well, that’s all I need to know for now,” Aridessa said and then was tackled with a hug.
Emily had run down the stairs and hugged her. She pulled back and handed something to Aridessa. “This is for you,” Emily said.
The picture was of her family in a little house at the top she had written ‘Please catch the mean lady, please,’ she smiled and looked at Emily.
“I’ll do the best I can.” Aridessa said to her.
    Emily clapped her hands happily.
“Well, bye Emily, Clary. See you two around. Be careful.” Aridessa said and saw Emily waving good bye form the window when she entered her car.

    ~A Week Later~

Aridessa had interviewed the girl-friend, surprisingly she seemed completely innocent. Now all the information was pointed dead at Clary. They soon found out that she owned a pair of red stilettos and a red c**k-tail dress. They had also identified the prints on the gun to be hers as well. They had enough to get a search warrant.
At the time being they where on their way to the house. Three police cars, no including Aridessa’s car. Everyone in the vehicles where armed and ready. They went up
to the front door and knocked.
“Police! Open the door!” A hefty male police officer said, standing to the side of the door.
No one answered. The policemen knocked down the door and then headed inside. As soon as Aridessa entered the door a gun shot rang through her ears. Without waiting for any one she ran up the stairs and into a room that on the door it was decorated with Emily’s name. She ran in to see Clary aiming a gun at Emily. Emily had already been shot in the leg and was trying to crawl away crying.
“Drop the gun!” Aridessa yelled at Clary, pointing her gun dead at her.
Clary dropped the gun without even looking back at Aridessa.
“Put your hands up!” Aridessa screamed. She quickly went up behind Clary and hand-cuffed her hands behind her back. The other police came in then. “Call the paramedics, Now!” She screamed and dropped Clary. She ran over to Emily and picked her up carefully. “It’s going to be okay Emily,” She whispered to the girl.

    ~Epilogue~

Emily pulled through, though she had to lose the leg in which her own mother had shot her in. Emily thanked Aridessa for everything she had done. After checking more into it, Aridessa discovered that Emily had no more surviving relatives. After that Aridessa decided to adopt Emily.
Emily was so happy. Aridessa went and helped her get her things from her old home. Aridessa bought a small house for the two of them in town. They moved in and got comfortable.
Emily started school the next year and Aridessa started to work again. They continued to live there life normal even after all the trauma.
