• An hour goes by and already Jane has forgiven Knuckles and is ready to start another exciting conversation. She clears her throat to get his attention, but nothing happens, all that did was make the silence awkward. Great going Jane. Now what does she do? She can’t just start talking to him, he’d just...Well...What would he do anyway? There’s only one way to find out, she takes a deep breath and says in a quiet and calm tone. “Thanks...For staying. I really appreciate it, after a day like today.”
Knuckles, while hearing this, is now puzzled, why is she still talking? Didn’t they just argue with each other a couple minutes ago? “Uhhhh...” He begins to respond, ”What’s wrong with y-“ He almost finishes, but he hears a noise in a near-by corridor. “What is it?” Jane asks in a whisper hearing the cacophony as well, she wants to check out the source, but is scared and knows that that’s not a good idea. The noise continues as bumpings and bangings, a high-pitched and random shriek rings out making both Jane and Knuckles jump from shock. Jane gulps and crosses the room to “hide” behind Knuckles rather quickly, but after seeing a couple of horror movies the reaction is understandable. It’s always the loner sitting in the corner that gets killed off first and Jane doesn’t want to be that loner. “Let’s get outta here!” She whispers feeling terrified.
“Not yet,” Knuckles responds grimly, “there’s something screwy about all of this.”
“WHAT!?” She answers in a harsh undertone, “If we stick around we’re going to be dead!”
“I don’t think so.” He retorts, he notices Jane starting to argue and adds, “Stop talking!”
She has to suck in her pride, but she heaves a heavy sigh and shuts her mouth, as they stand together in the new stage of silence and suspense. The noises continue to become louder and closer, Jane feels the hairs on the nape of her neck stand on their ends. The dark corridor, like a closet of doom with a real monster inside, pitch black, as the noise mumbles down to almost nothing Jane watches Knuckles inch closer to the ominous doorway. Even though he’s been more of a jerk than anything else, Jane’s concern forces her to try and prevent him from moving any nearer. She grabs his arm and whispers nervously, “That’s not a good idea, you don’t know what could be in there!”
He shrugs her off, “Humph, you don’t either.”
Closer and closer he advances toward the hall in-turn making Jane even more frightened, she bites her lip wondering what is to come of this.
