• While a large thunder storm rage on outside, a small girl the age of six sat in a corner of her room. Hugging her legs, the girl shivered and slowly got up and with great cation, searched for a blanket. After about five minutes of searching, she finally found a semi-soft blanket that she wrapped herself in. She looked back and forth across her room, seeing the holes in the sheet rock and all of the cracks in the walls from her dad throwing large objects at her, often missing because he was so drunk.
Looking at the cracks made her think of her life. When she was born, her mother had died from child birth. Her dad at this time was in prison for starting a fire right outside of town. Her dad did more things then start a fire though. The little girl's dad, when he was mad, would take off his belt and whip her until she bled. She learned to deal with these blows at a very young age. She still remembers when she looked in the mirror and saw all of the scars from the beatings.
The little girl had never gone to school or been taught to read and write. She had picked up some of the cursing that her dad would say when he was angry. What she did know though that she was all alone, and no-one knew she was in the house, or so she thought. The little girl got up as carefully as she could and tiptoed to a lumpy bed with a ton of bad memories.
The little girl lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling wondering how she would get food or drink. She was scared to leave her room. She wanted to stay here all of her life. The little girl stopped thinking about it and fell asleep to the sound of the steady rain and the branch, tapping on her window.
The little girl awoke to a knocking noise. She sat up and looked around. The knocking came again. She pulled the covers over her head and starting crying, silently. The door suddenly was opened and a man in a black suit looked at her. The man stared at the little girl with long blonde hair that looked like a birds nest. He looked at her deep brown eyes, her frightened deep brown eyes.
The man smiled comfortably and stuck out a hand. "Come on," He said, "I wont hurt you. I am going to give you to a nice family who will love you and take care of you."
The little girl looked at him first with confusion and then a smile came upon her face as she understood what the man in black was saying. She jumped down off her bed and walked over to him taking his hand. The man smiled and walked her out of the house. The little girl squinted in the bright sunlight, but as her eyes adjusted she smiled again. Never had she seen something so beautiful. The man looked down at the little girl in rags.
"So tell me, what is your name?"
The little girl stared at him and then whispered something the man could not hear. The man bent down close to her. She whispered now in his ear.
    "Jade, my name Jade."
The man smiled again and said
"Well Jade, you are going to be very happy soon,"
And with that, the man in black walked the skipping Jade out of the world she knew before and into the new one that held a promising future.
