    Chapter 27

tab A knock on the door. Subtle. Innocent. Nothing that could be percieved as being malicious or purposely destructive.
tab "John. What's going on?" It was Sarah. But how'd she know John? I decided to stay quiet, and just listen.
tab "John? Are you there? You did call me to come to this room, right?" What? John called her? I just continued to kneel there, listening as the footsteps of Sarah droned off.
tab "So what you said...what you said was true," I whispered to the dead carcass of Kyle. "Sarah...did murder my wife." Very abruptly, I got up, and rushed over to the door, swinging it open with all my might. Sarah was there, at the end of the hall.
tab "Sarah!" She turned her head around, bulging her eyes once she saw me.
tab "Chad?" She ran over to me, and put her hands on my shoulders. She started to say something, but I shook her off and interrupted,
tab "Stop." She gave me this questioning look, and took a step back.
tab "What's wrong?" I gave her that look. The look that meant everything was serious. No more jokes. No more letting things slide.
tab "I want...to know...the truth." Sarah looked thoroughly scared as she stammered,
tab "Chad...I don't--I don't know what your talking about. I told you everything I know already."
tab "No...no, you didn't. You're hiding something, aren't you?!" Tears started streaming down her face as she whispered softly,
tab "Chad..." Her voice faded into more whimpering.
tab "I heard you!" I exclaimed, my voice rising with every word. "You and John...You two were working together, weren't you?!
tab "Chad...: She turned around, and ran off, leaving a trail of wet tears on the floor behind her.
tab "You murdered my wife, didn't you?! That's why you're running away...You're afraid! Afraid to admit the truth!" One last time, she turned around and showed her red stained face as she stepped into the elevator. Then the "ding" as it went down. She was gone.

tab I found myself in a taxi cab 20 minutes later. A silent ride as I watched the darkness of the night out the window. It reminded me of what's been going on in my life. Everything, right there in front of my eyes, within my grasp. It was just too dark for me to see. For me to actually grab.
tab A two hour ride. I was dropped off at the police station, where my car was. After paying a rather large sum, I nestled myself into my car, and took a deep breath. I bit my lip. Why was all this happening? Why was it that everywhere I went, something wrong had to happen?
tab I thought back to the beginning. Sitting with Charles in Red Lobsters. Happy. Having fun.
tab Then, when I figured out my wife died, everything went spiraling downward. First Charles' death. Then when I killed John, who was actually innocent. And then...
tab I stopped thinking at that moment. I just bowed down my head, and started doing what I didn't do but should've done a hundred times during all the events that happened.
tab I cried. I cried so hard that the road became a blur, and the constant honking of the still cars behind me reverberated ove and over again in my ears.
tab What was going on? Why was all this happening?
