• "Hello Mrs. Regina." I said dropping the five chapter books down the chute.
"How are you Casta?" she asked with a smile on her face.
"I'm fine and you?" I replied to her
"I'm great. You finished the Magyk series already? Any mistakes found? You only got the series two days ago sweetie." she sounded concerned
"Yes I did finish it, I found Nikko quite funny. Umm and yes I did find one an error with I believe it was in Flyte. When Nikko laughing on the ground she forgot to put quotations around him talking. And you shouldn't be concerned. You know I read twenty-four seven." I whispered grinning.
    "Yes but dear..."
"Mrs. Regina you're doing it again. Being much to concerned about me reading." I had cut her off. My black hair was in a French braid today and my bangs were coming down into my chocolate brown eyes again. I wiped the hair away
"Mrs. Regina, with all due respect Ma'am I'm twelve years old and probably read more books than you can imagine. I moved here when I was eight and I've already read every book from the toddlers section to young adult. You've read the adult books. I don't find a pull in them mainly all about work and sleep. Much to boring for me."
I pulled my small bag up on my shoulder. The bag was green and seemed to match with my blue jeans and prince purple t-shirt. I wasn't big on fashion it always seemed unimportant to me. I mean no one cares if you wear some slacks and a spaghetti straps.
I walked over to the Library's computer. I sat in the rotating plush chair. And looked through some of the previous books kids had looked through. I found something that sounded somewhat interesting.
I was very tired but determined not to forget that I had to go home in a few hours. Slowly I walked over to Meg Cabot's section and grabbed a random book off of her shelf. And walked over to my favorite spot in the library I opened up to the first page. I read through the first chapter then the next and so on till' around chapter 7 or 8. I had stopped because. All I knew was that a girl was in love with a ghost. I had no clue what I was reading. I soon dozed off.
The book lightly dropped to the table and my legs curled up on the chair. So I looked like I was a little kid ready for nap time. My thoughts wandered from one to the other meshing and making no sense.
I thought about my pet owl and then a snake and the snake ate my owl and then, a small shiver ran down my spine as I watched my owl get consumed. Then something landed hard in my lap.
I awoke and wiped the drool from the cushioned chair and looked at the book in my lap. The book was very dusty and I could just see a gold lettering on the top. I used the back of my arm to brush the book off. And there in big faded gold letters were a few words. Mathew and Readen.
The book was about the size of my arm. But then again my body was slightly smaller than natural I was only 4'6". So that might not mean much. Anyways the pages were yellowed but the black lettering on the pages stood out. I opened the first page. And the book said.
"Mathew and Readen was the Kings of Rhyme and Square.
Rhyme was a kingdom full of happy word filled people. Numbers were prohibited unless used indirectly. King Readen thought that without words you'd never have numbers. Readen and Mathew had a fight a few hundred years back and they hadn't spoken since. Not to each other anyways.
King Mathew was king of Square. Everyone there had a number. From negative infinity to positive infinity everyone had a number. King Mathew had forbidden the use of real names. They had stores from 1 to 10 all stores had numbers one way or another. See Mathew thought that if you didn't know what one way was then you could never know the another way. So you see his point." The book finished and closed
I got a mouthful of dust. I spluttered and finally noticed my surroundings. I was still in the chair I'd fallen asleep in. But the floor was now wooden the mural on the wall was now a stone wall with a spiral staircase on the left side. I heard a low mumbling and it was coming from the other side of the book case next to me. I stood up and my chair spun and was gone I didn't pay any attention to it. My converse weren't making any noise on the wooden floor boards I was glad.
For some reason my heart was in my throat and I was walking slowly around the book case. I peered around and the voices became much more profound.
"Pick Me!", "Moby d**k obviously is better!", "NO WAY!" I shushed them all.
"Where am I books?" I asked
"You or us seeing as you seek the way out we shouldn't tell you for we don't know that?" A book on my right asked
"I never asked how to get out. I asked where I am." When they all started shouting again I walked without a destination point up the stairs. Soon those voices faded but in the corner of my eye I saw a door in which there were some two or three people talking.
I knocked on the door and the talking stopped abruptly. I would have thought that they had left. But then someone was walking toward the door with heavy foot falls.
“Hello madam. Garrulous here at your service, do you know where you are going young lady?” he asked I shook my head not risking my voice “Well no one truly knows why the come to Keil in the first place. You know technically…” while his voice droned on talking I knew why his name was Garrulous of course it meant chatty.
I looked at his face while he animated pictures. His face was the one you’d seen on television. Bright and welcoming like a good morning show host. He seemed to always be smiling. He was very tall around probably 5’9 or 10”.
For right at this moment he had his arms on his hips standing stalk straight still talking. I peered through the triangle in his left arm. Two boys were leaning back in their chairs. Looking quite pleased that I’d interrupted their conversations. They both looked about my age. One had black hair and tan skin that was about my shade. His shoulders were broad and the hair met up with them, his eyes were a baby blue which shocked me for a moment though it didn’t show on my face. Or at least I thought. The one I had just been shocked about snickered. He had his feet up on the wooden small square table. The other boy had bronze colored hair that seemed to be pulled back in a ponytail behind him. He had green eyes and cream colored skin. He smiled at me and stopped leaning back in his chair. He stood up and I stopped looking.
“Eh, Garrulous give the girl a break.” He said
“Oh but Affable I was just getting to the best part.” He groaned to Affable
“Garrulous you know that she would love to at least sit for the story.” Said the other boy, I hadn’t noticed he had stood up. And was now beside me, he gently put his hand on my back and pushed me through the door, he had barely touched me but I went willingly because standing was starting to hurt my legs. And his hand was nice and warm on the middle of my back.
“Hey my name’s Tranquil. What’s your name?” He asked me smiling a pearl white smile.
“I’m Casta. Hi Tranquil.” I said testing my voice at the beginning
“You can call me Quill. Everyone finds it easier more or less I guess.” He said still smiling
“Well I don’t have a nickname my name is much too short for it.” I said as a matter of factly
    “How about moon?” he asked
“Well I guess. Yes that is one.” I said stumped
“Ok then.” Someone coughed. His smile was gone and now he introduced the others.
“Well, this is Affable he is my brother.” He said pointing toward the bronze haired one. Affable smiled and lifted his hand. “And that is Garrulous. He is the janitor here he doesn’t get a chance to talk to people when he is cleaning so he babbles to all of the staff after hours.” He had whispered the second sentence. When he saw the thin layer of amusement on my face he smiled too. And I noticed that I’d left my bag in the chair that was now gone. Garrulous coughed again and every one straightened up as he sat.
“Ok so here I was minding my own business when a chair pops up with a little boy curled up in the seat. He was sleeping of course but there was something different about him. He had pale white skin and white blond hair. I nudged him. He woke up and said. Where am I? I told him…” Once again I wasn’t paying any attention to Garrulous.
This time I was taking in the smell of everyone and the room. Garrulous smelled like cleaning chemicals. Quill smelled like honey suckle in the wet foggy morning air, nice and refreshing. Affable who sat just two chairs away and was still smiling at me smelled like strawberries. I liked Quill’s smell better than the rest because honeys suckle was my favorite. The room smelt like candles regular burning candles and the smell just seemed to change every sniff. From Hawaiian Breeze to Bubble Gum to Chocolate.
Garrulous seemed almost finished so I acted like I was paying attention. Affable and Quill who had probably been looking at me the whole time now followed my movement.
“The little lad finally got home.” Garrulous finished
“What an amazing conduction Garrulous.” Quill said
“Thank you.” Garrulous said “Do you have any stories you haven’t written out yet or hasn’t been removed from confidential Mr. Tranquil?” Garrulous asked
“Well Gary. Maybe some confidential work I’ve done but they’re confidential. Maybe I can come up with something off the top of my head but all depends if the guest wants to here a story and what kind.” Everyone looked at me. I felt the pressure.
“Well I guess I would like a story that hasn’t been told.” I said slowly
“Great.” They all said together happily. Knock, Knock, Knock. The door was banged from the other side of Garrulous walked over to the door and opened it making the conversation shorter. He probably knew these people.
Garrulous stood aside and in walked two girls. They waved at Quill and Affable, the two boys waved back. One of them had silky blond hair and had brown eyes the same color as mine. She had the same skin tone too. It wasn’t skin tone that they had it was more of a light brown, she wore a uniform of a striped skirt and blue blouse. The other wore the same. She had bright red orange hair and green eyes. Each uniform seemed form fitting and comfortable. Quill scooted away from me and in to the next chairs two seats to my left.
“Hello Kaleigh how are you today? Hi Marissa how is you?” Quill asked them both.
“Good thank you Quill. And you?” asked the blond
“I’m great Quill thanks for asking. How are you?” asked the red head
“I’m good ladies’. Meet our new friend here Casta.” Said Quill pointing towards me, I felt the spotlight on me and I raised my hand shyly.
    “Umm h-h.” I stopped trying
“Hi Casta here is how you say hi H-I hi. Now you try.” Said Quill instruct me he emphasized H-I. I heard Affable suppress a small laugh
“Hi Kaleigh. Hello Marrissa.” I glared in Affable’s direction. He laughed not bothering to try to suppress it.
“Hello Casta.” They said in unison
“I’m Kaleigh.” Said the red head
“And I’m Marrissa.” Said the blond
