• I watched the day pass by my eyes, watching the sun go all the way to the other side of the horizon. It cast heat around the area we had settled upon, and I was protected by my shade at all times. I watched as animals walked through the grassy area, and people make their way down the old dirt road, and never once did one of them see us.
But the sun was setting behind the tree's, and it was getting darker every passing minute. I smiled, and stretched out my arms in front of me for having sat still so long. I got up slowly, and stretched out my legs and back.
He stirred, and gently opened his black eyes. I stared at him, leaning against my tree.
"What?" He asked, still half asleep. He rubbed his eyes some while, and got up to his feet to stretch out.
"You know what." I just kept staring at him. He was quite tall, and looked like he had been working out before this life. The shirt he wore gave proof to that, and he seemed like he would win against any opponent.
    Maybe even me.
"Fayne, I do not know what you are talking about. Will you please just let me know?" He had froze after watching me stare at him, and walked up to about three feet from me.
    "Why are you secretive?"
    "Secretive?"
I sighed in frustration. "You told me we have seen one another before, and yet you have not told me anything about it. So clearly, if you wish for me to go save the village that exiled me because of my difference, speak up what you know."
"And you won't move another step untill you hear that, correct?" He sighed, shaking his head. "Why me."
"Because I know that you know things about me that others don't."
He sat down slowly onto the grass in front of me, and I sat down as well. I had a feeling this might be long.
"In eighteen nine, I had only been a vampyre for about three years, and already I was at the top of my new life. I had wandered away from everything going on; the parties, the celebrations, everything. The temptation at the time to take their life was too much, so I had decided to exile myself untill I learned control.
"I had stumbled a bit in the forest I was walking through, and landed on my face into the mud. I don't know why I had fallen, but my only guess was balance. Even perfect things have a flaw.
"So anyways, something helped me up, and at the begining I thought it was another vamp, but the body heat coming from my helper was intense. It was more like a mortal than a vamp. So I jumped away as soon as I was to my feet, wiping my face with my sleeve.
"Once I could see again, I was taken aback.
"The person before me had the longest black hair I had ever seen - down to her wrists, in slight curls at the time. Her eyes were such a dark green, that I felt like I was looking into her soul. But the darkness from her eyes faded when you looked at them. You saw nothing but purity inside. Her skin was pale, and her style was something curious for the time. She wore a blue tank top and tight black pants, when this seemed out of style. She had on black flats at her feet, and more bracelets than you could count. She had golden hoops at her ears, and a silver necklace hanging at her collarbone.
"She was the most beautiful mortal I had ever seen, and I knew she was strong, even if she appeared different.
"And then she spoke to me.
"'Why are you on the floor?' She asked. Her voice was like a lullaby.
"I wiped off some mud from my hair. Why she was not scared of me, I did not know. 'I fell down.'
"'My, that was a fine idea.' She teased me, making no move to come closer.
"'Why are you not celebrating, like all the others?' I asked.
"'I do not belong with happy people, when my life is filled with sorrow. I came here to be alone, to wish.' She sighed, looking down.
"'Wish for what?' I found her interesting.
    "'A second chance at life.'
"I knew that this might make everything go wrong, but I asked her if she trusted me, and she said yes.
"And so I started the spell."
    He started to recite it.
    "By fine, by far,
    I summon thy power.
    Beautiful, powerful,
    Make thy woman invincible.
    Second chance within one,
    Forever to this planet.
    She will be,
    Thy savior."

I just stared at him a moment. That spell sounded so familiar.
    Almost too familiar.
"What was her name?" I didn't notice I was instinctively leaning towards him, but he seemed to either not care or not notice.
    He sighed. "Fayne Darkness."
    I froze.
"I helped you back to the village, telling you what I had done after you had finished demanding what I had done. I helped you in the first years, before you left. I was a best friend to you."
"But I don't remember any of the two years..." I whispered. I was now a centimeter from him, my face frozen in shock, my words flowing through unmoving lips.
"I made you forget them. I didn't want you to leave with memories like that. I made you forget myself, even." He put his head in his hands. "A foolish mistake. And now because of what I have done, mortals have found our village! How long..."
I shushed him with a hand to his lips. "Shush!"
He looked at my arm with saddened eyes, then my eyes. I looked back at his intensely.
"I think I remember. It's somewhat fuzzy, but I remember something..." I sighed, then removed my hand quickly. "Sorry." I muttered.
"It's okay." He took the hand I had removed between his. Then he smiled gently at me.
I smiled, and got up while he was still sitting. "Well, come on. It's a five day walk from my village, so let's get going." I swiftly bent down to whisper in his ear. "Yes David, we were really close friends now, weren't we?" I teased, then pecked his cheek before walking to the road.
And yet he was already there by the time I got there.
"Yes, actually. We were." He smiled at me. His mood was radiant - there was actually emotions behind the guy. He was happy, it beat against my skin and sinked into my body, making me happy.
I started to walk again, headed for the village that had exiled me. He followed beside me, walking so close that I could feel his arm rub against mine.
I could feel his eyes on me, even as I put on the hood of my cloak and kicked rocks that were in my path. I kept my hands in my pockets, smiling down to the ground.
I had come to this other village for peace, and for a place to fit in. And yet, the only place I actually fit in was where I ran from in the first place. It's where I used to belong, and where I still belong. A greatly gifted Vampyre should be where she can do some good, not hide untill I die.
I am going to help the people in the Village Of Night, and then I will fufil my desteny. Then I will be free once and for all.
But where would that be? For once in my life, I am stumbling into the dark night, without any idea what will happen.
I looked to my side, peeking out of the corner of my eyes to him.
But I know who will help me. Because I know how this will end.
I stopped the words in my head before I could start crying. I did not want to start crying, especially in front of him.
"Are you okay?" He asked, putting a delicate arm around my shoulder and hugging me gently.
    I nodded. "I'm fine."
"Why don't we stop early, and continue on around sunset tomorrow?" He suggested.
That was the best idea I'd heard of in a while. "Okay." You could tell by my voice I was holding back tears.
He took my hand out of my pocket, and walked with me to a part of the sideroad that was really forested.
I sat down against a tree trunk with my knee's propped up to my chin. He knelt beside me.
"It's alright to cry Fayne. I won't hold it against you."
What a stupid thing for him to think that I thought he might hold it against me if I cried. Hell knows I wasn't afraid to cry.
But tears showed a vast weakness.
"I know. It's just for once in my life I know nothing about what is coming, who I am facing or what to do." I smiled gently, even as the tears flowed down my face silently. "But I know who will help me."
"Who is the person that will help you?" He asked silently, about a quarter centimeter from me now.
"I'm looking at him." I free'd my left hand and placed it on his shoulder. "And he will never give up."
    "Never?"
    "Not in a million years."
