• Chapter 1
    The First Step

A young man stood on the edge of a building, a smirk crossed his face as he gazed about the city. His black trench flapped in the wind, and his face was shielded from view by the darkness. It was a typical city, a normal busy neon lighted city, the noise of pubs, ambulances, parties, clubs, sirens, a train’s roaring horn and the headlights and engines of cars roared. The young man turned and walked towards the corner of the building and his smirk grew wider.

“Come out, come out where ever you are. My dear, I want to see you.”
,he utters in a chilling icy voice.

He points his hand towards a nearby bank, an eight story building. “Bang.” he utters and a large explosion erupts from the bank. The large explosion triggers smaller but frequent explosions.
“It’s time for you to come out darling, time for you to come and play!” he yelled and began to laugh, a sharp and chilling laugh. The building continued to roar in explosions as he laughed.

A medium size house is focused on and the angle moves to a young girls room; a young girl is asleep in her bed.
Ionia was asleep in her bed, huddled up and perfectly comfortable, a typical teenager in dreaming heaven. She moans and rolls over in her bed, when a sudden ray of sunlight is let into her room. Ionia squeaks and covers her head with the comforter. Her nearby Ipod holder clicks and starts the alarm; the local teen radio station comes on.

“Hey! Good Morning, or should I say bad morning to all those teens out there. That’s right, all you chicks and guys its return day; the day back to school after New Year’s and Christmas break! Hopefully all you guys and gals are ready to get out there, and if you’re not…BEST OF LUCK!!! Now you have 30 minutes to get to your schools and wake up to a new morning. Now for our morning mix! Starting off with, ‘Heart Beat!’ by Kawaii Kytties!”

Ionia uncovered her head and sat up, a look of discontent and anger crossed her face. She sighed and her head dropped down, “Only a dream! Ohhhhh!” she grunted and clutched the blankets. “Well, I better hurry or I’ll be late!” she said and crawled out of bed. Ionia stood up and stretched, her bright yellow shirt had Neko ( a small and cute kitten, similar to Hello Kitty) with an umbrella and a matching set of blue, cloud printed shorts. She opened her curtains and the sun’s rays pierced through, lighting and illuminating the room. A smile played on her lips and she ran across her room, and opened her door; it flew open and bounced off of her wall. “Let’s get it moving!” she said and ran into the bathroom. A mixture of noises could be heard from the bathroom and a frequent sound of ‘Uphm’s’ and ‘Ouch’s’ could be acknowledged.

Suddenly Ionia fell out of the bathroom, one leg in the air with a sock half way up her calf. “Ow, that hurt. Why today?” she wined as she rubbed her head. She finished pulling up the sock and got back up. Ionia straightened her clothes and ran down stairs. Ionia went to a public school, and as such she could wear anything she wanted, within limits, and today she was in her ’I-may-be back- at-school-but-I-look-like-I’m-still-enjoying-my-break’ mode. Her raven black hair was put into a messy bun, and a few rebel strands had managed to find their way to her face. The strands fell to curve and accent her face but she only found them annoying. She was wearing her new turquoise top and black pleated skirt. Her white knee highs were accents to the white waist tie on her shirt.

Ionia ran into the kitchen and frantically opened the fridge, ‘I’m gonna be late!’ she thought. She grabbed a bottle of juice and scrambled to a nearby cabinet and opened it. She grabbed a packet of ‘Breakfast Pax, Breakfast Fast!’’; which consisted of a granola bar, dried fruit chew and a yogurt honey cluster mix. Ionia placed the Pax and juice on the counter and ran out of the doorway, into the entrance. She reappeared with her bag and set it on the table. She stuffed the juice into the front pocket and zipped it up. It was now 6:50, she only had 10 minutes to get to school and prepare for first day horrors. She glanced at a nearby clock and screamed, “OH NO!!!”.

Ionia grabbed her bag and ran into the entrance, she slipped on her black shoes and grabbed her cell phone from the entry way table.

She grabbed her keys, locked the door and prepared to shut it. “Bye Mia, Bye Flaire, I’ll be back later. Be good!” she screamed and shut the door. Her cat, Mia stood at the top of the stairs and mewled, while a large blonde dog barked at the living room window door. The dog was Flaire and was obviously quite curious about where Ionia was going. She barked a little more and ran out of view. Ionia ran past the door to a nearby ‘nook’ beside the door way. Her bike was there, leaning up against her house, it’s bright neon blue paint shone in the light and the chrome handle bars were almost unbearable to look at. Although it was already five years old it looked fairly new. She grabbed the handle bars and moved the bike towards the street, right outside the entrance of her fenced in yard. She hopped on the bike and crawled to the entrance; Ionia moved a little way out of the entry and looked down the roads.

Ionia glanced down the road quickly and hopped on her bike, she sped out of the entrance and raced down the street, passing two blocks and then making a sharp right. She raced down this street, which was lined with plum blossom trees, orange blossom trees, and cherry blossom trees. Ionia smiled and looked in amazement only for a second before continuing her concentrated and timed riding. She raced and turned right, then left, then right again. Her eyes lit up and she let out a victory yelp, her school was right in front of her. Ionia sped up and leaned forward, hoping that she arrive dramatically and ‘cool’; her plans were spoiled. As her front tire passed the entrance gate a young girl stepped out in front of her.
