• This is part 2 short series that my mother and I came up with for her to read to her Sunday School class at church. She like to take children book and some stuffed animals to let them play with as she reads the story, this keeps the kids attention as she reads the story. Just remember that this is ranged for kids from 2 - 6 years of age, so don't expect brilliance. Let me know what you think as I have five of these stories and could use all the help I can get. If you have not read part 1, Buster helps a Stranger, please do.

Buster the Buffalo Deals With Jealousy

One day, Buster was on his way home from school. Out in a field he could see his friend Snowflake and another horse named Maria. Maria was an old friend of Snowflake’s before he moved to the desert with his family. Maria’s family came to visit Snowflake’s family for 2 weeks. They arrived yesterday and Snowflake was spending the entire day with her. Buster knew that Snowflake and Maria were friends long ago.

“Hey” Buster called out to Snowflake. They saw him and met him in the center of the field. “What are you two doing?” Buster asked. “We’re running in the field.” Snowflake said. “Well, I was about to run off to the oasis.” Buster asked, “Would you two like to come?” “Well, we just came back from there.” Maria informed Buster. “And my parents are going to start wondering where we are if we don’t go back home soon.” “Well, maybe next time.” Buster said disappointed. “Yeah.” Snowflake said. “Maybe so.” Snowflake and Maria galloped off to Snowflakes house. Buster felt lonely.

As the days passed, the next time didn’t come. Buster saw Snowflake and Maria running in a field or around the town, but Snowflake didn’t seem to have any time for him. After a week passed, a downhearted Buster was off in what he thought was a lone field. He didn’t see Coppy flying patrol in the sky. He landed a few feet away from Buster.

“What’s wrong young one? You seem like you’ve lost something.” Buster looked over at Coppy, “I have.” he said. “Really?” Coppy said. “What is it? Maybe I can help you find it. Everyone says I have really good eyes.” “It’s not a what.” Buster muttered, his head hanging down. “It’s a who.” “Oh” Coppy said, now understanding. “Your referring to that young filly Snowflake is running with, aren’t you?” “Yes” said Buster. “Since she showed up here, I haven’t been able to play with Snowflake even once. I wish she’d just go away and never come back.” “What?” Coppy said in mocked shock. “Now that’s not really all that nice a thing to say now is it? Is that how you really feel? “Yes it is!” replied Buster, now angry.

“Look at it like this.” Coppy told him. “You have other friends besides Snowflake. But Snowflake is your best friend. You’ve got to understand that Maria was once his best friend, but then Snowflake had to move away. Since she’s here for only a short time, he waits to be with her as long as he can. I know this makes you angry but you shouldn’t take it out on Maria. Would Jesus like you to do this?” “No” Buster replied. “That’s right.” Coppy told him. “Psalms 103:8 says, ‘The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plentiful in mercy and love-kindness’. So does that sound like he would like the jealous feelings you have against Maria?” “No” Buster replied. “Then I think you need to forgive Snowflake in the way he has treated you, and you need to forgive Maria for taking all of Snowflakes time. Then God will have mercy and forgive you as well for your anger toward Maria.”

Just then, Snowflake and Maria came galloping up in the field. “Buster, there you are. We were about to go to the oasis now, do you want to come along?” “Sure!” Buster yelled. As Snowflake and Maria start off, Buster looks back to Coppy and says “Thank you.” “You really do have good eyes. You see what’s in the heart.”

Coppy could not help but smile after the three of them left, before he once again took flight to go back on patrol.
