• "Oh-my-gosh,oh-my-gosh!" I said, and Jazzy punched my arm. I 'omgsh'd a bit more, but after Jazz and Grimmy wrestled my arms behind my back and twisted them a little, I calmed down, and settled for bouncing up and down on my seat. On either side of me sat my bestest mates, Jasper aka Jazzy-spazzy, and Geraldine aka Grimmy - And I'm Alice aka Ali-chii! Grimmy nudged me in the ribs - she is seriously bony, so I glared at her as she spoke.
"We're on the plane! Your mom gave us tickets, hun, and is setting us loose on this unsuspecting country! Sayonara England! Hallloooo Americaaa!!" She babbled, already practicing her completely fake and awful American twang.
"If you keep talking like that, they'll throw you off the plane for insulting them. They're not all yokels, hun!" I grinned - that cheery accent had infected me!! We yoo-hooed and yodelled and 'hun'd a bit at Jazz until he threatened to eat us - having waited 3 hours at the terminal, we both knew the strenghth of Jazzy's hunger - while waiting he had been chewing on the this plastic bag strap.. it now resembled a bit of what could have been a very used dog chew! We grinned at him and I bounced some more, simultaneously moaning about how long it was taking to get the plane in the air. It's hours since we got on it!!
Us three were lying slumped on each others shoulders, mouths open adn eyes staring - we were pretending to be dead from the wait, fro the benefit of the stewardess - when we felt a throbbing feeling in our seats. Jazzy's eyes went big and round, and Grimmy's went small and narrow. I grinned. "Please please please let us get in the air now, yes?" I said, looking out the window at the people still scurrying around the strip. Jazz grinned evilly.
"Oh, of course we're going soon. We'll be in the air in no time." He told me innocently - I didn't trust the light sparkle in his eye.
"Jazzy, that contact lense is slipping again. You can see the blue above the brown." I said, and turned to the front expectantly.
About 6 gazillion hours later, we were still still still there! I gave a quiet 'rawr' of frustration, and punched Jazzy's arm. "C'mon, Jazz, you said we'd be in the air by now. And unless I'm dreaming, or on drugs, or under the influence of alchohol-" "Very possible." Inserted Grimmy, and I went on regardless. "- I'm very sure we're STILL ON THE GROUND!" I went back to being a dead person again, leaning my head on Jazz's shoulder. He leant his head on mine, and my dead eyes swivelled to Grimmy, expecting her to put her head on my shoulder. Instead, she had a wide-eyed excited grin on her face, looking at Jazz. I felt him raise his head, probably to give her one of his very accurate 'WTH?' kind of stares until she rearranged her face into a dead thing, and leant her head roughly on my shoulder. "Ow, Grims, thanks for the rough. Shh, dead now." I moaned quietly. Jazzy laid his head gingerly down on mine - I was glad he had noticed and not been as rough as Grimmy, because I was feeling kinda jittery. They had started serving out peanuts and crisps in bowls before the take-off, and we had a satisfactory moment of revenge when the air hostess turned to us and jumped back onto a passengers toe. When she looked back to apolagise, we were alive, and as she turned back to us, Jazzy said in his 'I'm-polite-but-you're-annoying' voice; "If you're not too busy, some nuts and crisps, please. Salted. No anchovies."All pur faces were poker straight, and she looked very disturbed as she served us without a word, then ran away. We stayed formal and poker-facey as we picked up the food. As Grimmy ripped open the peanuts packet, we all simultaneously burst out laughing. "Did you see her face?" I gasped, giggling out the words. Grimmy just nodded, only managing to get out; "No..Anchovies." Before howling and clutching her sides again. Jazzy was shaking in the seat beside me. Suddenly the voice came over the tannoy, saying to plug in our seat belts and watch the stewardess and the screen [How? We only have one pair of eyes!?] on how to act in an emergency. I looked at Grimmy, then at Jazzy, my eyes all big. He raised his eyebrows.
"Hey Grims, y'know Ali-chi's never been on a plane before?" He said, glancing past me for a sec.
"Yeah.. oh!" Grimmy said, as we started to crawl up the runway - I was feeling nervous.. What if our engines burst? What if we couldn't land, 'cause the wheels were jammed? What if a terrorist blew up our plane? What if I died? Worse, what if my best friends died and I was a vegetable for the rest of my life? Even if I wasn't veg-ified, I'd feel so guilty about Jazz and Grimmy! I threw panicked glances at them, then leant back against my seat and closed my eyes till I could only squint outta them. We were picking up speed, I could feel it in the soles of my feet, and in my stomach.
"Ali, it'll be awesome. Thousands of planes leave airports all over the world every day - we'll be completely safe." Grimmy said, grabbing my hand. Jazzy grabbed my hand too. I opened one of my eyes to look at Grims, and she was frowning at Jazz -I opened my other eye and looked at him looking at me. He grinned at me, completely relaxed.
"Ali-chii. Trust me. Nothing's gonna happen. In fact -" he was interrupted by my phone ringing, aand my shock that I had forgotten to turn it off. I rummaged quickly in the shoulder bag, and answered the call. !"Helloo?" I said, my voice funny. And not in a good way.
"Alice, it's mum!" I sighed to hear her cool reassuring voice. "I gotta tell you, there's something wrong with the plane. There's something wrong with the left phalange." She said, and I could hear the laughter in her voice. My stomach dropped, and as I was still lookign at Jazzy, I could see him looking concerned at me, still holding my hadn tight - I was pretty sure I going green. He took the phone from me. "Umm, Miss Foster, I don't think Ali is feelign too great right now? Huh? Oh, that's that quote from Friends!" I was relieved and felt colour come back inro my face - Jeez, I had got worries then! I can't believe I didn't recognise that quote. I rolled my eyes at Jazz, who's face was less tense as he grinned back. "We're about to take off now, Miss Foster. See you at the airport." He turned my phone off, and put it back in my bag. I looked ahead, and realised we were in the air - I had been too freaked out at my mum to realise we'd taken off. We were climbing, but my stomach was feeling less knotty-upped. Jazzy snorted by my side, adn I turned to find him trying not to laugh. I glared. "Bad Jazzy." I said, hitting him on the head with my bag - it ste him off, and he was pretty much howling with laughter in the chair, clutching his sides. I grinned, adn rolled my eyes at Grimmy, and then we both started laughing too - Jazz has one of those infectious, 'you-just gotta-join-in' kinda laughs.
I grinned at my two friends when they were breathing again. They looked questionningly at me.
"Sayonara England! Hallooo Americaa!!" I said, and we grinned and high-fived. Hell yeah, we're coming, America! We will investigate your pop-tarts, Pocky, 7-11s and huge hamburgers!!
I grinned, holidng onto the two rockingest people in the world. Heehee, I am so gonna dare Jazzy to a hamburger-chompy contest! He's goin' down, sucka!!
