• Preface:

Blake's son was huddled in the corner of a dark cave. His eyes bore no sign of life, they just stared into nothing. The boys arms were wrapped tightly around his legs, which were curled against his chest. It was easy to see he had been through some terrible trauma. Blake stood a little ways away, eyeing his son and the dozens of vampires that separated them. Leila was too his right and growling in a frenzied rage. She looked so beautiful when she was mad. His only regret was that he hadn't told her how much he loved her, and now it looked as if today would be their last on this earth.

Leila eyed the vampires angrily. She was searching for a gap or weakness in their wall. She hissed angrily.
"Give up." the male in the center laughed. "You're trapped. Surrender now and we won't have to kill you."
Leila laughed now. "I never surrender, especially to pathetic beings such as yourselves. You kept a little boy hostage for what?"
"Why, to get to you of course."
    "What are you talking about?"
"It was all just a game. We hypnotized your little human lover before you ever met him. Those vampires chasing him were meant to cross your path. The little boy ran away because we told him too. Don't you see? It was all a game to get you to come to us, and you fell for it."
Leila glared angrily at Blake. He looked horror-struck.
"I swear to you Leila I did no such thing."
"Well of course he'd say that." the vampire said before Leila could protest. "He doesn't remember a thing, he won't. Now Leila, if you cooperate, this will all be over soon."
"Never! I don't care what you want, I will never give it to you. Now release the humans and lets talk like civilized vampires."
"Who ever said we were civilized." he laughed maniacally, and the vampires around him did the same. "And anyways, there is nothing to talk about. We want you dead. With you gone you're father will have no choice but to give his seat on the elders to me, his only child left after you."
"You'll never get away with it."
"Such a common line." he tutted. "Times over Leila." and the vampires all pounced.
"NO!" Blake screamed and shoved Leila out of the way. The vampires did nothing to stop themselves from landing on him. Leila heard in the distance someone screaming. Then she realized with a small hysterical laugh that it was her.
