• Fan Fiction 1; Parts 1-6
    By: Megan B
Intro: I used to write a lot of fan fiction about FOB, but now, since I have so many “discussions” about the one and only lovely YU-KI FROM AN CAFÉ (WOO!), I have decided to write about those “discussions”.

    1. Jo the Magnificent

I unwrapped my last birthday present—a Teruki plushie with an abnormally large head. Not bothering to conceal my excitement, I leaned over and squeezed my friend Jo—plushie stuck in between us.
“Uh…Rae, you can let go now. Your plushie is getting squished,” Jo laughed, pulling away.
    I snatched up my Teruki.
“Mind the head!” Jo cried, still laughing from our embrace.
Sticking out my tongue, I squished my doll.
“Now, what about some cake?” I asked, setting Plushie down with my other presents: An Café’s CD Aroma, a “Nyappy Go Round Tour” T-shirt, and a green watch. My friend knew everything about me!
And I knew everything about her, so I knew I didn’t need a reply to know she wanted cake!
I walked into the kitchen and, grabbing a knife, plates, and forks, snatched the cake from the refrigerator.
I hadn’t seen the cake yet, so when I saw the crudely written “Happy 16, Rae!” on the surface, I couldn’t help but laugh!
“Jo…,” I muttered, shaking my head and strolling back to the dining room.
As I entered, a bright flash blinded me—Jo hadn’t forgotten her camera!
“Put that thing away!” I cried, cautiously placing the cake in the center of the table.
“Just want to capture the fun!” exclaimed Jo, poking her tongue through her lips.
Peering at the cake, she gasped.
“No candle?” she shouted, bouncing up to retrieve the forgotten—yet much needed—candles.
Not long after more drawers sounded open, she ran through the doorway, short brown pigtails bouncing up and down as she came.
Panting, she held up twelve candles.
“I could only find these,” she explained, showing me the ladybug pattern.
Shrugging, I plucked them from her hands.
“Hey!” she exclaimed. “It’s my honor!”
Jo took the candles back and carefully placed them around the green lettering of the cake.
“Hold on,” I said, retrieving a lighter from the refrigerator top. Flickering it, I lit a candle.
    “Careful!” Jo cried.
Wrinkling my nose, I reached the flaming lighter towards her—laughing at her screams.
“This is a new dress!” she cried.
I shook my head. “You and your dresses,” I laughed, looking at her dress choice of the day—pink and while ruffles.
I finished the lighting of the candles, and Jo turned out the lights.
“Happy 12!” she laughed, crowding around the already cluttered table.
After she sang a much exaggerated “Nyappy Birthday”, she lit the room back up
As we dug vigorously into our cake, Jo cleared her throat.
“Um…Rae; I have something else for you.”
From behind her back, she pulled out two tickets—to An Café’s concert!
    “Surprise!” she yelled.
My mouth flew open and for a split second I had nothing to say.
    “JO!” I screamed.
My friend smiled, offering a hug—which I willingly took.
“They’re for tonight,” she said, handing me my ticket. “That is, if it’s okay with you and your family…”
“Screw them!” I cried. “I want to see An Café!” I snatched up my Teruki plushie and hugged it tautly.
“Oh my god! We need to get out outfits ready!” I said, excitedly grabbing Jo’s hand and running to my bedroom.
Tearing through my door, I ran abruptly for the closet.
    “Jo, help me!” I beamed.
In an instant, she was by my side, plucking clothes and accessories from the shelves and racks.
After much negotiation, we had my outfit: XX-high top boot-converse, black and pink pin-stripped knee-high socks, baggy black jeans rolled up to just below the knee, and my new “Nyappy Go Round Tour” shirt. For accessories, Jo had chosen a matching set of heart necklaces, bracelets, bangles, and dangly earrings and a large pink hair bow—“to match the lettering of my shirt.”
“What about you?” I asked, laying out my clothes.
“Um…” Jo thought, “I’m thinking my black and white ruffle dress—the one my mom bought me for my birthday—, maybe a few pins, jewelry—of course!—, white and black pin-stripped knee-socks, and…” she paused. “Black sneakers.”
    I smiled. “Lovely.”
Jo smiled, but her joy quickly faded. “What about your parents?”
“Oh, right. I’ll call my mom.” I went to the hall and plucked the phone from the answering machine.
Dialing my mother’s work number, I sat down on my bed. My mother couldn’t get off work this afternoon.
After a myriad of rings, the secretary of her office answered and directed me to my mother’s office.
Once I reached her, I have thumbs up to my anxious friend.
“Hello, this is Karen,” my mom spoke into the phone.
“Mom? Jo got us tickets to an An Café concert. Can we go? PLEASE?” I asked.
My mom sighed through the phone. “Why not? When is this concert?” she asked.
    I paused. “Tonight,” I hesitated.
“Tonight?” my mother exclaimed. “But, Rae, what about your birthday?”
“I know, Mom. I’m sorry. But we already spent our ‘fun-bonding time’ together today, and you’ll probably have to work late. Mom, I’ll probably never get to see An Café ever again if I don’t go tonight!” I pleaded.
A pause, followed by a sigh.
“True…Ahh, I guess so. Be careful!”
I screamed. “Oh, Mom! Thank you, thank you! I love you!”
Laughing, my mom said her goodbyes and we hung up.
Jo had already figured out that my mother gave in, for she was jumping up and down in excitement.
    “I can’t wait!” she cried.

    2. Preparation

At 7:00 P.M., we headed over to Jo’s house—I already dressed—for the concert at 8:00.
Up in her room, Jo dressed as I sat on the top step, waiting.
Finally, she stepped out, twirling around. She was wearing all she had stated.
I stood up. “I love it!”
    She laughed. “Me too!”
At 7:30, we headed out to Jo’s car. She was six months older than me; therefore, she could drive—still under her GDL.
After making a quick stop to pick up my Teruki plushie, my new watch, and to put away my Aroma, we were off to the inter-city concert hall.
On the twenty minute ride there, the two of us talked about out predictions about how we thought the night would go.
Eventually, we arrived and rushed in to get the granted aisle seats in the second row.
Sitting down, I leaned over to Jo. “Now if Teruki walks by, he might see me!”
    Laughing, Jo rolled her eyes.
I stuck out my tongue and snuggled my plushie.
Soon, the hall filled up; and—soon enough—An Café appeared on stage.
The crowd went wild—meaning so did we.
I waved my Teruki doll as the five of them introduced themselves—starting with Miku and ending with Yu-ki. When Teruki took the microphone, I let out a loud scream and waved my doll frantically.
Sitting back down, I turned to Jo. “I swear he saw me!” I exclaimed.
She only replied with a smile and a shake of the head. She was eyeing Kanon and Miku.
As the concert progressed, I let you all my “An Café Spirit Control”.
However, at about mid-concert, I started to feel dizzy. I ignored the sensation until I no longer could.
“Jo,” I whimpered, “I don’t feel so well.”
My friend stopped her cheering and looked at me, worried setting place on her face.
    “Are you alright, Rae?”
“I’m not sure…” Everything seemed to become distant, and soon enough, I felt myself drop into the aisle—leaving a bobbing Miku print on my eyelids.

    3. Waking.

As I slipped back to consciousness, I felt a soft cushion under my head.
    Jo?
Confused and hesitant, I plucked the cushion from behind my head and sat up.
“What…?” I mumbled, looking at the cushion; but it wasn’t a cushion at all, but a jacket.
Turning the jacket over, I saw Japanese characters decorate the back:
    “アンティック-珈琲店- o (≧∀≦) oゆうき: Keys”
“Jo didn’t bring her Yu-ki jacket,” I though. I hadn’t thought of looking around me until now.
The stage was empty except for Miku and Kanon, who were staring at me, slowing tangling cords.
Looking up around me, I saw Jo. She looked concerned, but grinned in relief when she was I was awake.
“Rae!” she cried, leaning over to touch my head.
I returned the smile, but in question.
“Whose jacket is this?” I asked, showing her the jacket I found under my head. “I don’t remember seeing it anywhere…”I said thoughtfully, tracing the characters with my finger tips.
Glancing back at my friend, I saw she was nervously trying to conceal a smile by biting her lip.
    “Look,” she said.
Confused even more, I looked around in a complete 360.
    “What?” I asked.
Jo’s mouth plummeted open in my stupidity.
    Finally, I spotted Yu-ki.
“Oh my god!” I cried, staring at Yu-ki, not far from me.” This is Yu-ki’s jacket? THEE Yu-ki?” I questioned in awe.
    Jo nodded intensely. “Sure is!”
I couldn’t help but show my excitement. I bounced up, but as I did, it seemed though I was now in slow motion.
I started to sweat, and I noticed I was hesitantly walking over to Yu-ki.
When I reached him, I couldn’t meet his eyes, so instead I talked to his hat.
“Here…,” I said, holding out the jacket. “Th-thanks.”
Returning a smile, he took his jacket and slid it on.
As I walked back to Jo, who was now staring at my in disbelief, I held my fingers to my nose and inhaled. FABREESE. It really was Yu-ki!
    Grinning, I returned to Jo.
Smiling, she grabbed my Teruki plushie that had fallen. “Here,” she said, handing it to me. “You dropped this.”
Snatching my doll, I hugged it. That was when I realized the hall was empty.
“Should we go?” I asked, looking over my shoulder.
Jo laughed. “No! We’re alone with An Café!” she cried, eyeing Kanon and Miku, who were now walking over to Yu-ki, Kanon smoking a Caster Mild and Miku sticking a Pianissimo 1mmg into his mouth, unlit.
I snickered. “So, then, tell me about what happened.”
Jo and I sat down in the nearest chairs, and she began:
“After you fell to the floor, I screamed. Everything stopped. Crazy, right? Yeah, then the fans backed away and Yu-ki and Takuya ran over. How very odd! But, yeah, then Yu-ki put his jacket under your head and he sat down with Takuya. Soon, Teruki ran over and handed me our plushie. He laughed and went back on stage. Then you woke up!”
I looked at her, not believing anything she just said.
“You mean, Teruki touched my doll?” I asked, holing my Teruki doll to my face to try and capture any scent. No use.
My friend nodded, stifling a smile.
    I screamed. “Oh my god!”
At my scream, Yu-ki looked over, and for the first time I saw Takuya was sitting next to him.
Momentarily glancing, I turned away to hide my face—steadily growing red.
“Let’s get out of here,” I suggested to Jo.
Frowning, she narrowed her eyes and glanced at Kanon and Miku, now sitting next to Takuya, enough a smoke.
    But, she agreed.
I waved to the four, thinking about the whereabouts of Teruki. Thinking of Teruki, I grabbed my Teruki doll and started to walk down the aisle towards the door, Jo trailing behind me.
As we proceeded down the aisle, I focused on my doll, embarrassed of how I acted. Jo grabbed my arm and gestured for me to stop,
Unaware of what was going on, I turned to her and noticed she was staring ahead. Following her gaze, I chocked on my breath.
There, not six feet from me, was Teruki. And he was looking straight at me.
I raised my eyebrows and let my jaw drop.
There stood Teruki, sexy as ever in Machine Gun shirt and dark jeans. His dark brown hair hung coolly around his perfect face, exposing his heavily pierced ears.
This was much better than my plushie!
Even better, his dark almond-shaped eyes were looking at me!
    Casually, he walked over.
I turned to Jo, my back to Teruki, and air screamed.
Jo smiled and excitedly gave me a quick point to indicate Teruki was behind me.
Slowly, I turned around, giving me time to fix my googly eyes. Blankly as I could, I looked into his eyes—fluttering taking over my stomach.
“You O.K.?” he asked in his incredible Japanese accent.
I could not help but slip an “Oh man!” of affection through my lips. Quickly, I covered my mouth and nodded.
Teruki laughed, eyes twinkling. “Not the first reaction, not the last!”
I couldn’t help but smile. I looked down at my plushie of him and smiled like never before.
“Ahh, your toy. Yes, I gave that to your friend there.” He laughed again.
“Who knew I would ever have a doll after me after Bou-kun left!”
I glanced at Jo, who was still eyeing Kanon and Miku.
“Yeah, today’s my birthday and she gave it to me,” I replied, meeting his sexy eyes again.
    ‘Damn!’ I thought.
Teruki looked taken aback for a second, but then smiled gently. “Well, happy birthday! Or should I say ‘Nyappy birthday!’” he answered, forming his fingers to the genuine An Café “Nyappy Sign”.
I smiled, cheeks hurting. “Thank you. But, hey, could you please sign my plushie?” I asked, not bothering to mention how in love with him I was.
He bowed, and pulled out a Sharpie from this back pocket. “Gladly,” he smiled, taking my doll and scribbling his name on the stomach.
Handing it back, he craned his neck to see this band mates. He cleared this throat and mouthed something—obviously in Japanese. Then he did some type of small dance; I wasn’t sure if he realized I was still here.
Turning, I realized Kanon was standing, motioning to Teruki. Again, I glanced at Jo. She looked like she had just crapped a cow. Eyes wide, she stared.
Turning back to Teruki, I saw him raise his eyebrows and nod, bowing one last time, flipping his hair seductively.
Clearing his throat again, he turned to me. “Ah, well, I need to get back to the guys.” Nodding, he have us a peace sign and hurried over to the other four.
I couldn’t help but watch with lustful eyes as he walked.
Nudging me, Jo laughed. “Rae! He’s 27!” she exclaimed.
Reluctantly taking my eyes off Teruki, now laughing with Takuya and Miku, I turned to face my friend.
    “Let’s go,” she said.
Checking my watch, I saw it was 10:45.
“Ouch! We need to get back!” I said, rushing towards the door.
Turning one last time, I saw An Café rise and head on stage.
Jo pushed me through the door with a squeak and ran to her car.
Starting it up, she called to me through the windshield. Immediately, I got in and we drove home in the dark, chattering about how great the night went.
    4. Homecoming

As Jo dropped me off, I invited her to come in, but she declined and drove the block to her house.
On entering, I saw my mom was home—and likely sleeping.
Running upstairs, I changed into pajamas and listen to Aroma, still spellbound that I, Rae Williams, had been face-to-face with the one and only Teruki!
Closing my eyes, I leaned back, allowing the flawless image of Teruki flood my senses.
I let out a deep sigh, smiling to myself.
A knock sounded at my door, breaking my concentration.
‘Why didn’t Jo take pictures!’ I asked myself, frowning as I walked over to answer my door.
In the doorway stood my mom.
“Can I come in?” she asked, peeking around the door.
    I pondered. “Sure.”
Sitting on my bed, my mom smiled. “How was it?” she asked.
Not bothering to shut the door, I sat down beside her. “I met Teruki and I passed out and Yu-ki used his jacket as my head pillow!”
My mom looked concerned. “You passed out? Rae, are you okay?” She completely ignored the good parts!
    I nodded, glancing at the clock—now 11:15 P.M.
The crease on her forehead didn’t leave and she searched my face. “Why did you faint?” she asked. “Are you feeling alright?” She reached out and held her hand to my forehead.
Pulling away, I groaned. “Yes, I’m fine, thank you. Now, Mom, sorry to be rude, and even though tomorrow is Saturday, I would like to head to bed and capture, like, every moment of Teruki possible. Is that okay?”
My mom looked hurt. “Oh…okay…,” she said, a note of melancholy in her tone. She squeezed me into a cuddle, and kissing my check, said, “Happy 16, Rae.” She gazed at my C.D. player. “Is this Teruki?” she asked.
I smiled and closed my eyes, resting my chin on her shoulder. “Oh, Mom. Thanks.” I pulled away and bid my mom good night.
After I could no longer hear her footsteps ring through the hall, I reopened my door, shut off my CD player, and laid in bed, immediately falling asleep.

    5. Aroma

I woke up from the light pouring through my open-curtained window.
Looking at my clock, I saw it was well past noon.
Groaning, I sat up and stretched, closing my curtains.
Downstairs I could hear pots and pans clang.
After checking my appearance in my full-length mirror, I ran downstairs, flattening my matted hair with my hands.
Down in the kitchen, my mom was cleaning the lunch dishes. Seeing me, she shut off the water and pulled out another pan.
    “Hungry?” she asked.
Shrugging, I declined. “I’m going to take a shower. If I’m not out by the time you go to work, I’ll see you later.”
I walked into the bathroom, and, locking the door, took a long, refreshing shower.

After dressing and fixing my hair, I walked out of the foggy bathroom.
    “Mom?” I called.
    No reply.
Running over to the window, I noticed her car was gone.
“Yes!” I mumbled and ran upstairs to get my An Café CDs and DVDs.
Downstairs, I crammed Magnya Carta in the DVD player and sang my lungs out to “Maple Gunman”.
After that, I decided to call Jo. Dialing her cell phone number, I turned down the music.
“Hello?” Jo answered, music also playing in the background.
“Jo?” I replied. “Hey, I was thinking if you’d like to come over. My mom’s not home. What do you think?”
    A pause.
    “Sure!”
I could tell she was smiling.
“Great!” I answered. “See ya soon!”
Hanging up, I ran to the mirror and combed my hair, not bothering to change my plaid pajamas.
As I sat around, waiting for my friend to arrive, I popped in the Aroma DVD—a present from my mom.
Five minutes into the DVD, the doorbell rang.
I hurried to answer it, and swung open the door, revealing a smiling Jo, holding my plushie.
Her short brown hair was down and she dressed like me. She held out Teruki. “ You forgot this.”
Taking my doll, I motioned her inside. “Tired?” I asked.
Jo smiled and nodded. “You bet!”
I laughed and returned the nod.
I was just about to ask her if she wanted to watch my DVD with me when a sharp yelp rang out.
I totally forgot to let out my puppy, Zing!
    Jo turned to me, confused.
    “My dog,” I explained.
Running upstairs, I ran to the guest bedroom. Sure enough, there was Zing, biting the cage door.
When I let him out, he instantaneously jumped on me, licking my hands.
“Down,” I scolded and led my puppy downstairs and to his food and water.
“Ooh! Zing!” Jo exclaimed. She loved the puppy, and he loved her.
Neglecting his food, Zing ran over to her and engulfed her in licks.
Eyeing my plushie, he turned to the table and leaped up, taking Teruki in this jaws.
I gasped and snatched the soggy, slimy Teruki back.
“Bad dog!” I yelled, protecting my plushie.
Whimpering, Zing ran back to his food dish.
“Now,” I said, turning to Jo, “Aroma is playing in my DVD player. Want to watch with me?”
Cheerfully, Jo nodded, and we filed to the TV room.
Just as we got comfortable, the doorbell rang.
Knitting my brows, I sat up. “Who….?” I started, leaving Jo to answer the door.
Hesitantly, I opened the front door, still confused. Peeking around the door, I gasped and swung the door open, leaving Yu-ki standing in the doorway.

    6. The Hero of Surrealness

I covered my mouth with my hand. Hesitantly, I let him in.
Excited, Zing jumped up from his refreshments and ran to the newcomer.
Scowling, I led Zing away from Yu-ki.
“Um…,” I started, not wanting to meet his eyes.
Yu-ki laughed. “I’m so sorry. I just wanted to, um, see if you were alright,” he said, patting my dog on the head.
Leading him into the TV room, I nodded. “I’m okay, thanks. But, tell me: how did you get my address!”
Entering the TV room, he laughed. “I’m famous! I can get anything!”
I laughed quietly. “True.” Gesturing to Jo, I finally met Yu-ki eyes behind his dark sunglasses. “This is my friend, Jo. She was at the concert with my last night.”
Jo stood and bowed to Yu-ki; he did the same.
    I smiled. “Um…so…?”
Yu-ki shrugged. “We’re not leaving until tomorrow,” he explained, accent stealing my heart.
    I nodded. “Oh.”
Jo sat back down and crossed her legs, placing her hands on her knee caps. “You don’t happen to have Kanon or Miku with you?” she asked, peering out the window.
    Laughing, Yu-ki shook his head.
    My turn.
    “What about Teruki?”
Yu-ki threw his arms up in question. “No, but I can get them…”
    I gasped. “Serious?”
He nodded and pulled out a cell phone from his pocket. Sitting down next to Jo, he waited and finally got an answer.
After talking in his native language for quite a few minutes, Yu-ki put his phone back into his pocket.
My friend and I turned to him.
Catching our expressions, Yu-ki nodded. “They’re coming.”
Jo and I sprang up and screamed, embracing. I clapped and thanked Yu-ki multiple times. Jo did the same.
Retrieving my Teruki doll that had fallen on the floor, I sat down again, gasping for air.
I buried my head in my hands and smiled. After seconds, I leaned my head back on the edge of the couch and sighed.
    “This is surreal.”
For several minutes, we sat in silence, listening to the music coming from the DVD player.
    Finally, the doorbell rang.
    We turned to Yu-ki.
“Do you want to get that?” I asked.
He turned and looked out the window.
    “I guess.”
He stood, and walked to the kitchen.
Jo and I turned to each other, releasing large grins.
From the kitchen, we heard four male voices all talk at once, and a dog bark—and it wasn’t Zing.
Footsteps approached the room, and there, in my doorway, stood An Café.
I sprang up from my seat and ran over too them, nearly tripping over the yapping Zing.
Arms out, I smiled. “Can I have hugs?”
Miku, dog in arms, turned to Takuya, confused but smiling. After he had handed over this dog, he stepped forward.
“Miku!” I cried as we embraced.
The embrace felt—and smelled—amazing. I breathed in his smell—Quasar—, and sigh it out, smiling.
Pulling back, I nodded, smile growing and tears brimmed my eyes. “Thank you.”
Miku smiled and bowed, turning his back to me and stood against the wall, dog back in his arms.
I glanced at Jo. Her mouth was hanging open.
“You just hugged…M-…Mik-san!” she cried, slowly and quietly at first and steadily growing louder as she stepped towards me.
I could feel my face growing hot.
    “Any else?” I asked.
    Teruki stepped forward.
I clapped. “Yay! Oh, I’m so sorry. I’m just crazy about you guys!”
Laughing, Teruki and I hugged. I didn’t want it to stop. He smelled his great!
Pulling away, he joined Miku, reaching out to pet his dog.
    I smiled. “I’m sorry.” I laughed.
Kanon stepped ahead, and from beside me I could hear Jo hold her breath.
“Hello! Me?” he asked, holding his arms. He smiled.
“Room for two?” I asked, turning to Jo.
Nodding, Kanon embraced the two of us.
I closed my eyes and smiled. CK-One smelled awesome.
When we broke apart, I opened my eyes and turned to Jo.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a grin that enormous on her face before!
Finally, Takuya stepped forward and offered a quick hug.
He didn’t smell as nice, but it still felt unreal.
Picking up my neglected Teruki plushie, Takuya handed it to me, smiling
    “Thank you,” I whispered.
I stepped back and eyed every one of them. They all looked great in jeans and a T-shirt.
Yu-ki took off his head and placed it in Kanon-san’s head and casually pulled out a Rose and lit it, corrupting the quiet air with its smoke.
Slowly, they looked at each other.
Teruki made a small dance and glanced around.
Out of nowhere, Zing ran up to Miku and barked; Miku jumped.
“I think he wants to meet your puppy,” I explained.
“Ooooh!” Miku laughed, and released his dog. Our dogs ran around, barking.
Yu-ki laughed as he watched his face full of admiration.
I opened my mouth, letting choke breath come out.
“I just want to saw that I love you guys,” I said.
Jo nudged me. “So do I!” she said, studying Kanon’s black shoes.
Hugging my plushie, I shrugged. “Uh…”I don’t know what to say.”
Teruki laughed and sat down on the seat nearest him. “Just say you have something to eat! I’m hungry!” He laughed and the others nodded.
    I smiled. “I can manage that…after I get a photo.”
Snatching the camera from the desk in the corner, I snapped a photo and nodded in approval.
    “Now we can eat.”
