• As she sinks deeper and deeper into her thoughts, Emma is shocked to find her heart is beating faster and faster. Her body is drenched in sweat and shaking in the night breeze. “A simple walk home should not be this difficult for me,” she says to herself. She flinches at every sound, walks faster with every leaf that falls in her sight. Every tree branch that moves with the wind sends a chill up her spine that demands her to run and makes her throat dry and tight. It’s as if her senses are heightened with every step she takes further on the path into the vast city park. As Emma passes a night lamp that dimly lights the eerie park path it suddenly flickers and then goes out with a slight buzz. A twig snaps beneath her foot, she jumps back with a gasp. “It’s just a twig,” Emma says sighing to her-self. Suddenly a small thump, thump, thump comes from behind her like running foot steps like someone is coming after her. Without hesitation she jumps to a full out sprint and as she runs she looks behind her. Emma stops abruptly in her tracks to look at a black cat looking at her with a dumb founded look with a cricket in its mouth. “What a fool I am,” Emma says as she laughs at herself. It’s just a little cat chasing crickets that was making that thumping sound. Suddenly a large cold hand grasps her shoulder and her entire body freezes where she stands. Her heart stopped beating as her eyes grow big and her breath is torn from her throat with a bloodcurdling scream. The scream fades as the darkness takes the sound from her ears and the light from her eyes as she fades into the dark abyss of her mind. Slowly floating in her thoughts, Emma’s body and mind slowly starts coming bake to life. The numbness in her fades as she feels her breath come in and out. She hears someone speaking in a whisper and slowly getting louder with each word that is spoken. A mans voice tells her to get up and gives her a light shove but is becoming more and more aggressive with each shove. Suddenly remembering what had happened, Emma jolts to life with her fists and feet, kicking and swinging wildly. Whack, thump, slap, BAM! She filled her last punch with every ounces of strength she possessed. When Emma finally decided to open her eyes she found herself in her room with her big brother on the floor knocked out with a bloody nose. “I just had a bad dream”, she whispered to herself. “I just beat my big brother to a bloody pulp”! She speaks out loud with a chuckle. Emma jumps off her bed, steps over her brothers, now twitching, body then runs down stairs to get her dad for help, laughing the whole way there.
