• The picture was of me, smiling with bright eyes. This was very confusing...

Luke spoke in a cracking voice, "It's not what it looks like! I was just drawing! I don't like you!"

"Um... I never said you liked me." I pointed out. He simply fell silent with a slight tinge of red in his cheeks. Yeah, this was a very weird week...

By the time I drove to the police station to drop Luke off, my shift was over. Which meant that I could relax at home with no interruptions. Until tomorrow, at least.

After giving a small 'good-bye' to my partner as he got out of the car, I began to drive back to my home. If you'll believe me, it's an actual house. One of the only real houses left in the city. Pretty much everyone else lives in apartment buildings.

Lai, my wonderfully mischievous kitten, greeted me at the door. He was a black-and-white Calico that liked to get into everything. At the moment, it was a ball of yarn that tangled his paws together as he tried to get out.

I sighed deeply, "Silly kitty..." If there was anything that could brighten my day, it was Lai. It sounds kind of dumb, I'll admit, but he's almost like my child, in a way.

"Meow!" He cooed, trying to get out of the string. Without hesitation, I gently pulled the strings off his paws and filled his food and water dish for him. His yellowish-green eyes followed my every movement, including when I plopped onto the couch and yanked my shoes off.

Grabbing the book off the table, I started to read. With Lai lying in my lap, of course. I sat like this reading for two or three hours until I looked at the clock. It was about 10:00 PM. I carefully took Lai off my lap, careful not to wake him from his now-sleeping form. He purred softly as I picked him up.

Quickly, I took a shower and changed into my pajamas, which was a tank-top and sweat pants. Crawling into bed, I found that sleep came easily that night. Darkness overcame me when I closed my eyelids. My arm hung off the bed lazily.

The first thing I saw was the clock by my bed that said it was 2 AM. The second thing I saw was the silhouette of a man by the foot of my bed. Through the darkness, I could see Adrian's gleaming grin. With a slight 'YIPE!', I fell out of bed, the sheets tangling my legs. I fumbled into my nightstand drawer, getting out my gun and grasping for the light switch on the lamp.

As light flickered on in the room, I jumped onto my feet, ready to shoot. The only problem was...

    There was no one there.

    [No one's view]

Adrian stood on the fire escape, watching the startled police woman with new-found interest. Her bed sheets grasped tightly on her hips, preventing her from much movement. Her face was filled with shock as she tried to look for him.
"I'm out here, Kitty-Kat. Come and get me." He whispered. He had come to burn down her building to prevent her figuring out anything more... But she was just too much fun to watch.
