    Prologue.

Lurking in the shadows of the long dark alley were two cloaked silhouettes. Together they peered out of the darkness towards the many students crowded around the school. If anyone were to see the cloaks, they would tell you that one cloak was quite tall, and the other quite short. What they wouldn't be able to tell you was what they were looking for.
"Is that her?" Asked the tall cloak. The voice was that of a man's, yet soft, gentle and excited.
He pointed toward a girl who sat reading in the shade. She looked up at some passing students that called her ridiculous names. The girl smiled pretending not to notice the rude remarks, but also revealing two big front teeth. She had some thick glasses in which she constantly had to push back up her small nose, let alone small face. Her short blonde hair was a mess.
Next to the tall cloak, short cloak sighed. It's right sleeve lifted, holding a remote looking device. The only feature different than a real remote was small screen on its face. As the device was held toward the girl, tall cloak held his breath. For about 15 seconds nothing happened, then the screen flashed red once. Short cloak growled and dropped the sleeve to its waist. The other sleeve reached up to pull down the oversized hood.
Once pulled down, the hood revealed a beautiful tanned face. Two long braided pigtails of dark brown hair fell down just past her waist. Her smooth tanned face was scrunched up in frustration causing her clear green to eyes squint.
"Edward White," she whispered firmly, "that is about the 71st time you picked a random girl." She pointed one of her tanned fingers at him and leaned in close, "This is a mission not a game." Finished she straightened up again and peered out the alley once more.
"You're awfully serious today." Edward whispered in surprise, the girl was usually all about jumping around and having fun. In response the girl rolled his eyes, "Alright Taesha! Gee, I'll concentrate now." He knew he wouldn't be able to find the girl they were looking for in this crowd.
At that moment, all the high school students turned toward one girl in particular. They waved and greeted trying to catch their attention.
"Good Morning Tania." They all said. Tania nodded and waved back, causing squeals from girls and victorious looks from guys. It was pretty clear to the two in the alley that this Tania girl was the most popular of all. Tania's dark brown hair narrowly touches her shoulders and was styled with a green headband. Her smile was gorgeous and her eyes sparkled green. As a matter of fact, she looked a lot like Taesha, who stood frozen in spot. Edward didn't notice Taesha's stillness as he looked on.
"That's definitely not who we're looking for." He whispered.
Taesha wasn’t listening. The hand that held the device slowly lifted to point at Tania. As the seconds passed Tania looked toward the alley and moved slowly through the crowd. She seemed to try coming secretly but her blonde haired friend wouldn't let her. Right when Tania got close the device beeped loudly and the screen flashed green. Both Taesha and Edward were shocked, but quickly muffled the green light and sound in the hem of their cloaks.
"Astonishing!" Exclaimed Edward then quickly covered his mouth. He lowered his voice, "You really are a great guardian. I'm glad they made me your apprentice." White teeth flashed under his dark hood.
Taesha wasn't listening again. She had turned away from the scene outside the alley and started to walk away.
"We should report this to the master immediately." She whispered over her shoulder. She knows Edward can here her, she worked hard to train him for this mission.
    "Of course."
"The sooner the better, let's take the roof." With that they both, as one, leaped out of site toward the roofs.
