• Chapter One

I woke up to the shining light through my window. I rubbed both my eyes with my hands then looked into my mirror across my room. On the side of me, I could see Shelby sleeping-her eyes swollen. Mine also swollen. It feels like a dream; not having Jaden alive anymore.
My eyes stung as I got out of bed and I could feel tears betraying me. I walked over to my closet and got my purple bathrobe that Sebastian bought me last Christmas. I looked over at my nightstand which was on the side of my bed where Shelby was located, and smiled at the picture of Sebastian and I. My green eyes kept focus on that picture.
Thanks to Sebastian I changed a lot. My look, my personality, everything.
I remember comming home that one summer day with my new hair; Jaden and my dad were eating lunch at the kitchen table and when they saw me- I swear they didn't recognize me- Sebastian had his arm around my waist, smiling. It was Sebastian's idea that we surprise my dad and Jaden, he thought it would be funny and it was. My hair was not long anymore, but up to my sholders, and instead of blonde hair with blak stripes and bangs- my hair is now black and I have a bleached fringe. I smile and laugh more-well did before Jaden's accident- go out with friends- Yes, I now have friends. I quit smoking and cutting- all thanks to Sebastian. I took out my snake-bites, I don't pack make-up on anymore. Sometimes I even wear orange nailpolish instead of black. But now, I can feel myself going back further; before Sebastian. First I lost my mother, and now Jaden. Except that I knew Jaden my whole life.
Tears were now making their way down my face. I tried wiping them away but more just came along. I guess my sobbing woke Shelby up, because she was by my side, hugging me.
"Shhh...it's okay...everything will be fine." But I could hear it in her voice that she wasn't even sure that things will be fine.

After an hour or so of crying, I got Shelby situated for breakfast downstairs, then headed back in my room to take my shower. The warm water that caressed it's way along my body didn't help like I thought it would; not even a little.
"Jaden..." I murmered, and tears welled up in my eyes again. I don't think I ever cried this much. Not even when I found out from Jaden what happened to mom. I'm surprised the tears can keep forming.
"Did you call Sebastian yet?" Shelby asked while we ate our pancakes she made. I took a sip of my orange juice; trying to ignore her question. "Victoria?"
I shook my head and she sighed.
"You're gonna have to tell him about this."
"I know, Shelby. I know." I could feel that big lump in my throat. It was soar. I took out my cell phone from my pocket, then dialed Sebastian's cell.
"Hey, hun." he greeted me. I could hear by the sound of his voice that he was smiling.
Not for long. I thought, and began sobbing.
    "Victoria. What's wrong?"
"Jaden..." Was all I could manage to say. Shelby sat up and quickly came to my side, wrapping her arms around me.
    Silence.
    "He's..."
"He's what Victoria? Is he okay?"
    "HE'S DEAD!"
