- Description: Pocahontas was one of many daughters of a powerful chief named Powhatan, who ruled more than 25 tribes. Although her life was short, is remembered for contributing to the maintenance of peace between the colonists and the natives. She remains an important part of American folk history to this day. I think shes important because now its normal for someone to marry someone out of thier race but the time she was alive she probably was on of the earliest to marry someone out of her race.

It was actually more common than you think that settlers married Native Americans lD;;; I mean, at least I do not believe that is one of the reasons Pocahontas is remembered as a historical figure.
