• I awake, dreading the day,
Knowing it will be like any other,
    Going to school, being alone,
Seeing as no one wishes to befriend the outsider.

    Being different since birth,
Hated because of your different thoughts and mind,
You get used to it after awhile,
But are always wishing to fit in secretly.

Then you move into town with your family,
And see me as different, but do not hate me,
And I smile happily as you speak to me,
But I know it will not last for long.

When you leave me to go to class,
My smile fades away, knowing that you will not talk to me again,
And I go through my day normally,
Alone and wanting all the way.

I pull up at my home after school,
And am treated to a surprise,
You have found my home and are awaiting me in my front yard,
A smile on your face, and your school books in your hand.

When I ask what you are doing here,
You reply that you wish to do homework together,
And I smile lightly and ask,
Why with me when I am so different?

    Your answer is simple,
You say that I am different, but that’s what makes me special,
And you take my hand while we walk inside my house,
    My smile here to stay.
