The Weekly Rant XCV -Spring break
What's the point of the week off in april? Judging by the name, it's a break to be taken in spring, to give a brief vacation from school and such, but it doesn't seem to be based on anything. A few months after winter vacation, americans flock to beaches like drunken moths to a flame with dreams of obnoxious music, wet clothing contests, inebriation, and things they won't remember if they wake up the next day. Not too different from summer so far, so why is spring break notorious for this kind of behavior?

My guess is that summer goes for about 2 months and people can't keep up their debauched "parties" for so long and still have a pulse or brain cells. Spring break, however, is only a week, one in which the weather should be getting warmer (good ol' mountain state) and people wear less cocealing articles of clothing. Common hormones thaw out at this point, I suppose, and they're all too happy to have time off from education to ravage eachother like rabid pinatas and eat the candy that falls in the pool.

Why exactly we have this arbitrary vacation time is something of a mystery. I'll bet it started off honoring easter to convert pagans, but over a few secular years, it just became time off with no explanations needed, like christmas vacation for aithiests. My question is that since there's no celebration behind it, (besides that of puberty) why not cancel spring break? Unless I'm mistaken, brief vacations with no official celebration are what weekends are for.

Also, when you get back to school, the question "what did you do over break" becomes a great source of aggravation and unnecessary essay writing.

BOTTOM LINE: We don't need spring break, I think I'd rather just keep on going into summer.
That's this week's rant, I'm the Ominous Jester, Goodnight.
