Chapter 9, Training

A couple of months after the fight with Itamo, Jessica, Sean and Kagune, Jacob was training with his grandpa, Shizu. Kelly, Becky and Aisha were now training with him, because Shizu said that with the new evil about, they would have to fight.

“You must protect the world as the Guardians before you have. You will be called on to make sure the Earth survives and lives on.” Shizu told them as they trained.

“That’s really great and all, Grandpa Shizu,” Jacob panted, “But does this have to be a three-on-one session?”

Becky, Kelly and Aisha, with their weapons drawn, were advancing on the Earth Guardian.

“Of course it does. Kelly has had her powers since she was five years old, and therefor she has a greater grasp of her talents! Becky achieved knowledge of her powers at the age of six, and she can command flame without hardly a thought. Even Aisha’s had her powers since she was nine years old, the gusts at her will! You, on the other hand, haven’t had your powers for half a year. You overexert yourself, and can’t completely command the stones yet. Now, back to training.”

Jacob nodded, wiping the sweat off his brow. He spun his staff in his hand, at the ready.

Aisha rushed at his, her sword swinging in complected patterns. Jacob managed to block every slash before Kelly’s scythe came at him from the side. Jake turned an batted the head of the chain scythe to the side. He traced the chain to the trees, where she stood at the top.

He staff was suddenly wrenched from his hands as Becky’s whip wrapped around it and yanked it away. Jacob turned, and Becky held his staff with a smirk on her face. Jacob groaned, and pulled out his flute. He played a few rapid notes, and the earth beneath him shot forty feet in the air, above Kelly and the others.

Aisha’s wings exploded from her back. They beat the air rapidly, as she shot into the air.

Jacob played a few more notes, and stone pillars shot from the side, trying to hit Aisha.

“Stay still!” He shouted between notes.

Aisha grunted and swung her sword, slicing clean through the earth in a diagonal slash. The top part of the stone that Jacob was on began to slide, and he jumped off. He gripped the part of the stone that was still up, slowing his decent to the ground. He landed on the ground with a soft thump. Then there was a feeling of cold steel on the back of his head.

“You lose” Becky said in a voice, that even though he couldn’t see her, he knew she was smirking. She clicked the button on her gun.

Jacob whipped around, and slammed the back of his hand into Becky’s forcing the gun from her hand.

Both weaponless, they fought hand to hand.

Becky pulled her fist back and let it fly. Jake blocked with the palm of his hand. He dropped to the ground and swung his leg, trying to knock Becky down. She jumped and kicked out at Jacob, who rolled backwards to avoid the blow.

Becky back sprinted, and grabbed Jacob’s staff. Jacob felt around on the ground, and grabbed Becky’s gun. He aimed and fired. Becky spun his staff and blocked the bullet.

Becky held her hand out. The gun in Jacob’s hand began to twitch, as if trying to return to it’s master. Jacob has to wrestle with it to keep it in his hand. Then he held out his own hand. His staff began to twitch wildly in Becky’s hands.

It was a test of wills as each tried to get their weapons back. Eventually, both Guardian’s gave one final tug. The weapons flew from the others grasp and back to their owners.

Aisha and Kelly landed on either side of Becky as they advanced on Jake. He spun his staff at the ready and charged.

Kelly’s scythe came at him like a snake. Jake had to dodge to avoid being cut. Aisha’s sword swung down on Jacob, as he blocked it with his staff. Becky’s whip wrapped around Jacobs right arm, and Kelly’s scythe chain wrapped around his other. Both smirked as he looked at them.

Aisha brought her sword down to cut at Jacob. Thinking quickly, Jacob flung his body back and caught the blade between his feet. All three girls look dumbfounded at the position Jacob was in.

With a grunt, he pulled his arms in quickly, forcing Becky and Kelly to collide with each other. Wraps loosened, Jacob tugged his arms out of the chain and whip. He pushed backwards with his arms and flung back from Aisha. Grabbing his staff, Jacob twirled it expertly, mentally thanking his grandfather for the years of training.

Shizu clapped his hands.

“All right, my Guardian’s. That is enough for today. Jacob, you are advancing. Girls, your techniques are very well. You deserve congratulations. Rest up, for you have school tomorrow.”

With a bow, he left the four Guardians alone.

Jacob looked at Aisha, Kelly and Becky, all four were panting.

“Ice cream at Brewsters, my treat?” Jacob asked.

The girls nodded, and side by side, they headed off down the road.
