Chapter 18, Resurrection


“What in the Hell is your problem? You could have beaten him!” Becky shouted at Jacob as they raced across the countryside. Jacob was still carrying the girls somewhat awkwardly, though his strength was beginning to wane. The gold fire in his eyes was dying down, and he himself was beginning to slow down.

“ Hardly. We were no where near being evenly matched. He was playing with me, and I doubt he was using a quarter of his strength. No, best to run to fight another day.” he explained. Soon, the fire died out in his eyes and he slowed to a complete stop. He set the girls down gently, then checked himself over.

He had gashes all over his arms and a cut down his cheek. There was a gash on his back from where Leader’s sword has cut him sometime in the fight, and he hadn’t noticed it. His hissed slightly as he felt it, but other then that, he was all right.

The other Guardians seemed ok, a few scrapes and cuts here and there, but no real damage. Becky seemed annoyed, but that was probably more due to the fact Jacob ran away then any pain.

“I still think you could have beat him.” she said.

“Look, I did what I had to do. I was more worried about all of your safeties then mine. When he beat me to the pulp he would have, he would have went straight for you three.” Jacob said angrily.

“Drop it.” Kelly murmured to Becky, who had opened her mouth to retaliate.

They all stared at Jacob was they continued to walk, who had realized that he was being stared at by the other three, but kept his eyes determinedly forward. He knew what they were thinking. What had he done? What was all that power that had suddenly overcome him, enhancing every movement he had by one hundred fold.

He sensed they were within the limits of his power, and he commanded the earth to send them back to his house.

“Hm. Power like that is usually the sign of the Omni Form.” Shizu said, after Jacob and the others had told him what had happened. He seemed impressed with their fights, and interesting in what had happened to his grandson.

“The what?” Becky asked, staring at the old man.

“The Omni Form.” Shizu repeated. “It is the Guardian’s most powerful weapon. Well, A Guardian’s most powerful weapon. Only one of you can use it. Its not blood related. In fact, your father had it last.” He said, pointing to Kelly. “And your grandmother before him.” He said, pointing at Aisha.
“The Omni Form.” Jacob said, staring at his fingertips. “Huh.”

Meanwhile, one an island in the middle of a sea, Leader stood, staring at a large cave. The island and the sea itself were in a separate dimension, created by the Guardians of old. With his black cloak flapping, Leader entered the cave silently.

Encased in a crystal coffin, an old man lay with eyes closed, his arms crossed over his chest and his hands gripping two wands, one made of ebony stone, and the other of ivory tusk.

“Well. Varn, you’ve been locked in here for over two decades. I think it’s time you’re put to better use, don’t you?” Leader asked coldly, raising his hand over the crystal shell encasing the ancient wizard.

Immediately, the clear crystal turned opaque, then melted around the body, exposing it to the softly blowing wind inside the cave. The body remained still, only the long white hair and beard twitching slightly with the breeze.

“Hmpf. As immobile as when you we’re last put in here. Your just a decrepit old man, like Shizu, centuries past his prime. Not even worth raising a finger ov-”

Suddenly, Leader was sent flying across the room as the eyelids flew open, revealing ice blue eyes. The old man sat up slowly, uncrossing his arms.

“Finally.” He whispered, his voice raspy with years of disuse. “Finally. After decades in that hell of a prison, I’m out!”

Leader got back up abruptly, anger apparent on his face.

“Oh. And who would you be?” Varn asked with malice.

“Your Master!” Leader cried, sending a torrent of black fire at the old warlock.

With a twitch of his black wand, the fire was quenched, and there remained nothing between them.

“Hah. You young people with your so called ‘powers’. None of it can withstand the power of Ancient Magic!” He shouted, sending an unseen force to slam Leader up against the wall. As Leader’s robes fluttered, something caught the old man’s eye.

He strode forward, grabbing onto Leader’s right arm and pulling back the long sleeve. There were long black tribal markings along the forearm and the swirled around the wrist.

“Ah. So this is the new Leader of my Nexi.” Varn said, pulling back his own right sleeve to show the same exact markings. “I think not.”

The marks on Leader’s skin began to grow dull and grey as the ones on Varn’s began to grow sharper and blacker. The Dark Wizard smiled. He was in control again.
Leader struggled vainly to get up as he watched his plan go awry. Varn walked to the mouth of the cave, his wizard’s cloak fluttering in the breeze.

“Tell the Guardians I’m back.” He said with a malicious grin, stepping into a shadow portal and disappearing from the realm.

Okay, bare with me. I know it's been a while, and this chapter isn't really that long, but it's just been hell trying to write this story! I actually deleted all the chaps, and had to un-recycle them! But don't worry, if all goes well, I'll have another, if not two more chapters up!

Ok, so here we introduce a new villan, and its the official start of the Varn Chronicles. The series might only be four or five chapters long, but it'll be pretty interesting, lemme tell ya! Ok guys, those of you still reading this junk, thanks for staying with it!
