Chapter 12, Up and At 'Em

Kelly’s eyes blinked rapidly. She was laying down in a room that seemed very familiar. Her forehead felt very cool. She reached up, and felt the soft cloth on her forehead, soaked in cool water.

“Finally. We were wondering if you were ever going to wake up.” Becky said from the corner.

Kelly’s eyes focused on Becky before scanning the rest of the room. Aisha was absent, but Jacob’s head was at the foot of his bead, fast asleep. His face was masked, but he seemed to have anger in the tips of his mouth.

“He finally got to sleep a couple of hours ago.” Becky said, nodding to Jacob.

“How long have I been out?” She asked.

“Two days.” Becky answered.

“And how long was he up?”

“Almost two and a half days.” Becky told her grimly.

Kelly laid back down, her head throbbing.

“What happened? I remember Itamo, but after that...” She trailed.

“Kelly, there is something you should know.” Becky told her.

So Becky told her the whole story, from Kelly’s not arriving at the house, to her appearance at school, and her battle with Jacob as he told it.

“Then he brought you back. He cleaned a few wounds and just sat by the bed, waiting. He left for half an hour once, but didn’t tell us why.”

Kelly was struck by the news.

“He did all that, for me?” She asked quietly. “Why?”

“Oh wake up and smell the coffee girl! Don’t you see the way he looks at you? The way he watches to make sure your ok and happy? He stayed up for two days until your body steadied. Add two plus two.” Becky told her exasperated.

Kelly bit her lip, staring at the asleep Jacob. She watched his body go up and down with his breathing. He face looked stony, angry and sad at the same time.

Soon, Kelly drifted back up to sleep, a dreamless sleep.

She woke up several hours later, and Jacob was gone. Instead, Aisha was sitting in the chair he was in, reading a book. When she noticed Kelly was awake, she smiled brightly.

“Kelly! Your up again! I didn’t get to see you the first time!” She exclaimed.

“Hey Tree.” Kelly said, using one of Aisha nicknames, “How long have I been out this time?”

“Oh, about three hours.”

“Oh. Where, uh... Where is Jacob?” She asked casually.

“I dunno really. He left about an hour ago. Didn’t say where he was going, just said he was going to blow off some steam or something.” Aisha told her with a shrug.

“Right. I’m going to go look for him.” Kelly said, getting up suddenly.

“What? No! BK, you need your rest!” Aisha told her.

Kelly ignored her, brushing past Aisha as she opened the door and left. She went down the stair and flung the giant mansion doors open.

She head off in a random direction, heading wherever her gut told her to go. She crossed some grassy hills, finding nothing. Soon, she could her soft booms. As she walked, they got louder and almost deafening.

Jacob stood on a hill, sweating profusely. He had apparently not seen Kelly yet.

He was wearing black Martial Arts robes, his staff held in a stance in front of him. There were many large boulders floating around him. Suddenly, they shot at him.

Jake spun his expertly, cracking it down on a boulder and crumbling it to dust. She jabbed it behind him, cleaving through another boulder.

He continued to destroy large rocks and boulders until all of them were nothing more then pebbles and dust. He dropped his stance and wiped his brow. Then he spotted Kelly.

“Hey.” He panted, clapping his hands together. His staff disappeared.

“Hey.” She said awkwardly. “Wow, you’re....you’re pretty good.”

“Thanks.” He mumbled. He walked down the hill to her.

“So. What happened?” She asked.

“Didn’t BP tell you?” Jacob asked.

“Yeah, she did, but I want to hear it from you.”

Jake sighed tiredly.

“I’m not one hundred percent sure.” He began, slowly, “We know that you left for the Art room for your sketchbook. But when you didn’t come back, we got worried. Then the next day, you came in. Changed. You were walking with Itamo and the Destroyers.”

He sat down on a boulder, wiping more sweat from his forehead.

“Well, I wasn’t going to let that last long. Soon after, I challenged you to a battle. We met and fought.”

He finished. The silence was thick as the two just stared at each other.

Then Kelly hugged him.

Jacob, caught unawares, blushed slightly and hugged her back gently.

“I think we should go now.” He said with a small cough.

She nodded and smiled.

They began to walk back, chatting lightly about any and everything that came to mind. Their conversations lasted until they got back to the mansion, where Becky, Aisha and Squabbles were there waiting for them.

“Your back!” Aisha exclaimed.

Jacob and Kelly nodded, avoiding each other eye contact but smiling nonetheless.

“Squabbles. I think we need some lunch.” Jacob said.

“Right away, Sir.” Squabbles said with a smile. He turned with a click of his heels, shouting for cooks and preparations to be made.

“Looks like things are starting to get back to normal.” Jacob murmured.

“Yeah. Like anything about us is normal.” Becky said with a roll of her eyes as the other laughed.

Whew! Ok! Sorry about the wait guys! But thanks to BK, BP and Tree for kicken my butt into gear to get this chapter done!!!

Well, we see a little bit of the Jacob and Kelly romance in this chapter. I think it came out pretty well. But will it last, or will it be doomed to horrible, distrusting failure? Eh, it'll work out, don't worry.
