He met her on a winters day
Not to far from Dead Mans Bay
    Hauling Wood and acting shady
Far from being a proper lady
But he saw her beautiful smile
And knew at once she was more then a child
The bold man did a gentlemanly thing
He courted the lass and brought her a ring
She was a woman true and true
But she hung with the men, old and new
There love did blossom and he was content
He'd found his true love he would never reget
But a girl as free as she
    Was not meant to marry
Her heart did yearn for something more
And came one night she crept through the door
When he found out it was bad
Never a man cry as more as he had
He could not live without his lady love
His heart used to be as white as a dove
So he took his life with a shot through the head
And was laid to rest in a flower bed
And at his grave some did say they saw a girl
Looking as if she had the weight of the world
And every year that girl does return
So her soul can once again burn.
