• As I stare at you
    Instead of floating
    My heart sinks
I realize we won't be together forever
    You continue to laugh
    You don't even think
That for us there may not be a future
    I keep this to myself
    So that the radiant smile
    That lights up your face
    Will not fade.
    I study your face
    The piercing eyes
    The porcelain skin
    The silken hair
    Committing every detail to memory
So that I don't forget you.
You put your arms around me
    And say
    "You and me, together forever."
    Instead of comforting me
    It makes me picture
    Myself in the cold
    The only sound is
    That of the wind
    Singing a mournful tune
    That breaks my heart...
I look at you again and,
Ripping my heart off my sleeve
I force my mouth to carve
A hollow smile into my face
    All while I'm weighted down
    By my sinking heart
