• You gave me life
    that fateful morning
    a healthy baby girl
    with strawberry blond hair
    and honey brown eyes

    You watched as I grew
from a baby to a toddler
    my growth happened over night
I was no longer a baby

    As a toddler
    you watched as I grew
    from taking my first step
    to speaking my first word

    And just like before
    overnight
I was no longer a toddler
I had grown to a young child

    As a young child
    you watched as I grew
    from my third birthday
    to entering elementary school

Again time seemed to fly by
with the blink of an eye
I was no longer a young child
I was now a young teen

    You watched as I grew
    from the transition of elementary
    to a middle schooler
    and the problems that arose

    You watched as I grew
    the friendships I made
    the drama that I created
    you watched on

    When times became tough
    you no longer watched
    you helped me through
    with your helping hand

You lead me through each piece
    step by step
    hand within hand
    a mother and a daughter

    With each step
    we grew together
    your teachings
    and my understandings

    With the years moving on
and my childhood falling with it
    I began to grow
    And you watched

    My body began to blossom
    with the age
my maturity also learned to grow
    you watched on

    As I entered high school
    you spoke words of advice
    and truth
    and still watched on

    Through every hurt
    and heartbreak I’ve been through
    you helped me through
with your leading hand and watchful eyes

    Now as time turns
    and I have grown
    I look back
and see all that you have done for me

    You are my leading light
the hand that has helped me
    the shoulder I need
when I have lost my way

Thank you for all that you have done
    life you gave me
    patients you use with me
    love you have given me
but most of all thank you for being my mother
