• A wishing star fell To deliver a message
But the winds of emotion Twisted the passage
And instead of announcing, “Rejoice rejoice!”
It fell on a creature with no form or voice
Made of the earth and made from the dreams
Magic and life braided into its seams
It did not move, it did not stir
And the wish decided it was best to return
But the silver tears fell from the icy blue skies
And formed of the creature some glass button eyes
An animal found it and then brought it home
With much love and happiness, called the creature its own
Every day it talked its fears
And gave the creature a pair of ears
And the creature wishing also to speak
Formed a mouth that was simple and meek
And the sun shone rays of joy each day
Which the creature soaked up as it went to play
And the creature's friend was its trust
And the creature had no lust
But everything at the time was the same
Life itself was only a game
Until one day the creature and his friend
Had an accident which marked the beginning of the end
That love of the friend to the unnamed one
Poured out in red, poured out in tons
“Stay good for me,” the friend pleaded
But as its last breath left, the warning went unheeded And that creature changed and sought revenge
For whomever had killed its only friend
And in that one act it became known
That once equal creature had fallen, alone
All the others still lived together
Grateful each day no matter the weather
But all the things it had been and it had been taught
Were tossed aside, broken, and it forgot
Those eyes became darker, those eyes became blind
And all its joy and happiness became a harsh bind
Its head was filled with hate and despair
And it built itself an iron lair
And hunted down all the others, for it no longer cared
And though frightening others, it too was scared
It was lost to a world of its own creation
    Lost in sinful gratification

And it was the only one
    Who met this dreaded fate
And we call those among them
The ones who love to hate
