• I walk down the windy gravel road.
      It slopes upward then falls
to make miniature mountains and valleys.

The road ends on top of the little hill
where you and Opa are laid.

I walk up to your white marble headstone, while the leaves crunch under my feet.
      A cold breeze comes over us;
      the trees release a moan.
The stone cat still lies between your headstones,
watching everything pass by with its stone face.

I take in the scent of the air in one deep breath...
      Your musty scent still lingers.

I tune my ears to the silent forest...
Your hearty laughter reverberates through the air.

I listen to myself speak, and these words repeat over and over,
      "Oma, I miss you."

      I miss you upbeat attitude

      I miss your quirky humor

      I miss laughing with you.

I treasure every moment I had with you.

I wish every day, every second,
that you were still here with me.
