She sleepwalks through her sorrow's day,
Unable to face it fully awake,
Inventing chores to fill the space.
Within her heart; and oft she prays,
The unwelcome thoughts will be kept at bay,
Lest they flood in, sweep her away
Destination yet unknown,
One-way ticket with no way home.
The biggest fear to face; to be alone.
But sometimes on the lonely drive,
Shadowy butterflies let loose inside.
Shredded wings that cannot fly
But tear at secrets with every beat,
Ripping muscle till heartbeats retreat.
Raindrops sizzle on tarmac heat.
Violet cloudbursts shall not sleep.
Turns to the forests, green and deep.
Pull over under the trees, and weeps.
