• I waited, listening, and my voice rose from the canyon in reply
    Realizing my mistakes; wishing ere I knew what I know now;
    Of Echo and of Hera’s wrath
    And that self-loving, absorbed fool
    Who withered, while watching, adoring himself.
    ‘Twas not my fault, his consuming err
    I kindly comforted him, only to be ignored.
    Truthfully, I withered with him by his cherished pool
    And forevermore will I be a wisp of a reply rising from the canyon.
    My dire lesson from the gods is now learned,
    That before was pride and a quick tongue.
