• As day goes by,
    The sun ascends the sky,
Ripples on the surface of a lake
Spreading light, flashes on the waves.

Later as the sky goes dark
And the sun begins its final run
A streak on the surface burns
    Cold flames dancing on water.

    From out of the flames
    Ducks coming together
For another night of floating sleep.

Lovers meet to watch this time.
    The calls overwhelm,
    Hypnotize the mind,
Creating a new feeling, a precious find.

A sight that pleases the eye
    Burning cotton in the sky
Above a lonesome bird flying o so high.

    As sunshine descends
Glowing orange in defiance of time,
The flames dim thinking the end is near.

Final glimpses as time goes by,
    Wishful thinking and silence overwhelms,
The Earth goes quiet for that final moment.

The lovers slide away to their homes,
Walking close as they lose their sight
Their only thoughts on the experience they shared.

    Slowly now the flames die,
Nothing left too show that they were there
Except now the water looks too bare.

Only a glow on lower clouds
Show that the sun still exists,
A flash, then the light fades.

A flock of birds soar west,
    Returning to their nest.

    The sun is gone,
    The day is done,
But the memories will linger long.
