• A crunch echoes through the room
    Muffled only by his curses
It’s evident that her arm is broken
As he vents his drunken rage

Across the room a glass bottle flies
    Still covered with his spittle
    And flecks of undrunk liquor
Breaks near her head as she shudders

Wondering why she can’t just leave.
Every night as he yells and she swears
At the man she just can’t leave.

The doctor knows the truth she won’t tell
But there’s nothing he can do,
    Simply charges her the money
To set her arm, and send her away

    She shuffles home
Her arm held close and careful
    The makeup piled on this
To hide what she won’t say

Wondering why she just can’t leave
    But she goes back again,
To the man she just can’t leave
