• Within the frozen air of the twilight sky, a small boy takes his step out the window and onto the earth with the utmost elegance and silence. With nimble steps, he hurries to the point of destination of the place he’s dreamed of, the place he longs to be. Light, though quick paced, he steps into the light of the streetlamp, ready for the curtain to rise.

    One.
    Two.
    Three.
    Four.

Four breaths, three rocks, two whispers, and one glance…is what it took to awaken the one person he desired to be with. With that, he let his show begin, with the streetlamp’s glow as his very own spotlight.

    “Take my hand.”

    Says his voice.

    “I mustn’t!”

    Says her voice.

    “For what reason?”

“It’s past 4 o clock. There’s no way out besides this window.”

“Then, I shall come to get you.”

Up the fence and onto the roof he climbs to meet her gaze. He holds out his hand and she puts her hand into his. Delicately, ever so delicately, she steps out of the window, and into his arms. With a gallant leap, he lightly lands on the earth and continues to take her arm to lead her.

    “Close your eyes.”

    “Where are we going?”

    “It’s a surprise. You’ll see.”

The field of grass is their only course, for it is gracefully snowing, cold and a blanket of white covers the earth. They get to their destination, a hill that shows the twilight horizon.

    And then time stops.

Amazed, she sees the falling snow stop in its tracks. Their eyes meet and they hold each other hand in hand. She smiles, then he smiles.

They sit on the hill, hands laced, with her head on his shoulder and watch the frozen twilit sky.
