• A smile, a grin,
    Oh what a sin.
How could such a small movement convey such great emotion?
It is supposed to bring happiness, not such commotion.

    Your smile brings warmth…
    And yet something more.
    Sorrow. Pain. Regret. Tears.
Who thought something so simple and kind could bring such pain.
A person could become broken and stained.

A smile could bring a beginning,
    The beginning of something beautiful.
    Hope. Happiness. Joy. Laughter.
    But innocence can’t last forever.

A smile could bring closure to something dear.
The last picture of you brings tears.
And all you do is smile back, unaware of pain.
How could something so affectionate be burned into the mind as pain?

    Closure, something to be remembered.
But you left no closure, just this harmful smile.
    Will I forget?
    I pray and hope not.

With that smile, came the greatest moments of my life.
The heart soared like a kite.
    Each moment special,
    Filled with laughter and happiness.

    But as once said,
“All things come to an end,”
    And you begin to fade.

    The memories remain,
    But they are painfully stained.
And the only thing that remains,
Is that kind and hurtful smile.
