• Lost in the World

    It’s too dark outside
    For her to see.
    She is crouched to hide
    Behind the nearest tree.
She can feel the rapid pounding
    Of her broken heart.
How is it still beating, she wonders,
When my love and I are apart?

    She shouldn’t have hoped.
    She shouldn’t have tried.
But it used to be so easy
And now it felt like she had died.
    She needed a guide
To lead her away from the tears,
    Stinging her eyes
    Like twice sharpened spears.

    They didn’t intend
For it to go like this.
    But it did,
    In the end.
    And now everything’s empty,
    Including her heart.

And, thinking back to the start,
She knew she had not been smart.
But she wouldn’t have those days,
    In any other ways.

    She missed the times when
They would lay in the sand,
    The sky holding their gaze,
    Hand in hand…
He had so many ways to phrase
    The words “I love you.”
To her it had all been new,
    But, she definetly knew,
    She loved him too.
