When I can walk with grace,
And speak with manners,
When I can smile with beauty,
And act with elegance,
When I can control myself,
And keep my poise;
When I can trust myself,
In the midst of doubt,
When I can rely on myself,
In the midst of pain,
When I can contain myself,
In the midst of worry;
When I can make my decisions,
And stand by them,
When I can walk my path,
And say that I am right,
When I can hold my head up
And call myself proud;
When I can calm you,
In the midst of fury,
When I can stand by your side,
In the midst of danger,
When I can support you,
In the midst of weakness;
When I can look at you
Without blushing,
When I can hold you,
Without becoming a burden,
When I can love you,
Without having you smothered;
Will you accept me?

- Title: When...
- Artist: Sayuri Matsumara
- Description: I am in my school's Literary Club, and one of the other members kept thinking about a boy she liked that didn't like her. She hasn't given up on him yet and is trying to get him to like her. Since I couldn't think of anything to write that day during club, I ended up writing this.

- I like it, but the suspense of five stanzas without answer gets a little boring, and makes the reader want to skip forward to the end, omitting the true beauty of the poem.
