• I linger in the doorway. The dark hallway loomed before me, and I wondered if I should continue further. I wasnt even sure why I was here. Behind me, I heard nothing; ahead, I heard whispered voices urging me forward. I'm curious to see what lies beyond the closed door at the very end of the hall, which looked small from this distance. A musty smell floated up from the ground. The walls were bare and as dusty as any old walls could be. It must have been a while before anybody had been in here. Of course, I couldnt be sure, since I had never been here before. But something about this place seemed familiar to me. I racked my brains, trying to figure out how I knew this place. Was this place somewhere deep inside the abode of my memories? Or had I perhaps been here in a dream? A nightmare, maybe?
I shook my head, for I knew I was being silly. I had never been here before, and I knew it. But I still didnt believe myself. As I forced my leadened legs forward, my blood began to run cold. The temperature around me began to descend, my heartbeat increase evermore. My breath came out in a white, silvery mist that dissapated quickly. Immediately my mind went to the paranormal, and how ghosts were said to be around when things like this happened. But I doubted that a ghost, or ghosts, were with me. For one, the cold air stayed longer than it should if it were paranormal.
As I moved further, the whispered voices grew louder. I still couldnt make out what they were saying, yet, but they were there. FOr the moment they seemed disembodied. Then I began to make out silhouettes of people moving about. "Hello?" I called out, beginning to tremble now. No one answered, but they voices stopped whispering almost immediately. "Are you down there? I can hear you!" I called, my steps slowing. Again, I was answered with silence. "I know you're there! Come out!" I yelled, starting to get annoyed. "Why dont you come here?" A raspy voice replied, and I nearly jumped out of my skin because of it.
Without realizing it, my legs moved of their own accord. I only realized it when I found that I was moving. It was suddenly warm, as I crossed the threshold into the room with the door that was now open. I was of course surprised to find the door was open, for I hadnt seen anyone open it. I jumped again when the door closed, by its own accord. I stared at the door, with my back facing the room. I was trying to figure out how easily the door could be opened and closed that quickly when a voice from behind spoke. "Guinevere. How wonderful it is to finally lay my eyes on you." I spun around in ultimate surprise.
I now faced three men covered in black robes. Two, whom flanked the middle-who'd spoken my name I guessed-wore there hoods, which shaded the features of their faces. "H-how do you know my name? Who are you?" My voice broke at the end, and I stopped speaking, for I was sure I would faltar.
"Guinevere, I have watched you for a very long time. You are the one I have prayed for, everything I've dreamed." The strange man walked up to stand in front of me and laid both of his hands on either of my shoulders. "Guinevere Atlas, will you be my forever?" My heart jumped in my throat, and I couldnt speak. A stranger had asked me to marry him! No way!
Before I could let myself respond, I ducked out from under the crazy man's shoulder, and pulled the door open, needing fresh air. "Guinevere, wait!" But I didnt wait, didnt stop. I ran at full speed out of the strange building and into the cool night, heading for home.
Before I knew it, my whole world had changed forever, for the worse...
